Well I meant for this as a follow up on my last food group post but alas I cant find it..I know I know I should know how to do this by now. I digress, here it is for all to see. gag.
So the other day I found chicken liver and gizzards on sale for .39 cents per pound,I bought 6 pounds each to make treats for my doggie! I wanted to pulverize the livers, add whole wheat flour and pureed pumpkin. I dumped the liver in the colander to drain..OMG. I nearly threw up, obviously I had not thought this out. I'm used to using fresh fish for Monty treats, stinky but not like this. I was having a rough time wrapping my head around what was in front of me. I pushed on. Made trays and trays of treats. I couldn't stand pulverizing the remaining livers and baked them in the oven. I cooked the gizzards in boiling water. Do you have any idea what a slaughter house smells like??? GEEZUS! Obviously Monty loving this stinky mess never left my side. I have 19 baggies of treats, 9 baggies of gizzards and 6 baggies of baked liver. And that is being generous. NEVER AGAIN.. This is not for weak stomachs, our only son. LOL

Yuck! I hate the smell (and taste) of liver. But I also make beef liver treats for my boys. The whole house reeks to heaven and back. Good thing that when I had a "bright" idea to dehydrate raw chicken feet for them, I had enough sense left to put the dehydrator into the garage. GAG. Oh, what we do for our babies...
No way for my mistreated Doodles. Store bought treats for them...I would gag and more :) Monty is lucky!!
I can't even stand one raw chicken so I can only (gag) imagine how awful all of those 'innerds' must smell (more gagging). Monty is VERY loved.
I think I would have to wear an oxygen mask, or something! Yuck! Monty you are loved, that is for sure!
I did use rubber gloves and was wishing I had some nose clips! lol I spent a lot of time disinfecting the kitchen afterwards too. I'll stick to fish treats from now on.
What a lucky dog you are, Monty! Sharon, if you ever do anything like this again, I suggest you adopt my technique for grinding fresh horseradish - swimming goggles and nose clips. Just make sure there are no cameras around.
LOL, you posted it in the Comments section of the Food Group:

Was shopping at the Giant store, came across huge discounts on chicken livers and gizzards... .39 cents per pound! I bought 6 pounds of each. I will be cooking up treats for Monty this weekend. I think I'll grind the livers, add flour, eggs and plain pumpkin, bake up tiny treats. The gizzards I think will be boiled and cut into tiny pieces. All of this will go into snack baggies for the freezer. Many, many months of pure treats for my doggie!

I remember thinking at the time that it was going to stink to high heaven, but you sounded so confident, like you had done this before, lol.
I sure hope Monty appreciates it.
I don't think I could have handled it...that's true love.
