I can’t believe my Fudge is five. It seems like just yesterday I picked up a little, brown hairball from a breeder in Indiana. Hayley was with me and we drove 600 miles to bring her home and she was an angel in the car. We stopped at a Meijer’s on the way home and got a small dog bed and wedged it in between the two front seats and when she wasn’t sleeping in her bed, Hayley was holding her. I am sure it was not the safest way to bring a puppy home and I am not endorsing this method, but Fudge has always loved the car and is still dippy about Hayley.
From the moment Fudge walked into our house, she has owned the joint. She was so confident as she walked right in and looked around and quickly let our cat know there was a new girl in town. Fudge never seemed to have an adjustment period! She just seemed to know she was where she was supposed to be. I feel it, too. Fudge was meant to be my dog. I had some problems with our breeder at the end and I almost called off our deal, but someone was looking out for Fudge and me and knew we were meant to end up together.
Fudge loves all of us, but she is my girl. She doesn’t settle at night until I settle. Some nights she follows me around and I will find her just sitting and staring at me until I go back in my bedroom. Finally, when I do, she falls immediately to sleep as if she has been waiting all night for this moment. I find her staring at me a lot and most of the time I don’t know what she wants, but I usually stop what I am doing and give her a hug. The last thing I say most nights is, “I love you Fudge. You are my girl.” She is so smart that one of these days; I expect to hear back, “ditto.”
I got lucky with both my dogs, but it all started with my Fudge! The right dog found me and I am so thankful. Happy Birthday, Fudge!! You are my girl!
