Today is the one year anniversary of Phoebe's arrival into our family. We had moved to MN eight months prior and I had spent years telling my children they could not get a dog as I ran my house as a 'pet-free zone.' Seeing how miserable my two older children were here and how much they wanted a dog, I began doing some research and caved quickly after that. As a matter of fact, it was I who eagerly shared the news that the breeder I loved had just emailed with info on a new litter. I was hooked...addicted to doodles, one might say. The day she was to arrive was filled with a rollercoaster of emotions...she was on her way to the airport (she was flying in from AK)...there was a freak ice storm and that airport was shut down, they were heading home...the breeder got a flight out on a plane from TN instead...poor Phoebe had to connect in TX--with a layover, no less. I worried and worried about her condition on the plane and in what emotional state she would arrive to us. She was supposed to arrive in MN at noon but, with all the craziness and delays, she arrived at midnight instead. My husband picked her up from the airport and I warned him not to take her out there but bring her straight home. My oldest son and I waited and waited, TV on but neither of us paying any attention to it--the younger ones needed to head to bed as it was a school night (plus I must admit, if guiltily, that I wanted my oldest to have some alone time with Phoebe as he was--and is--the most upset about having to live in MN). When my husband brought the carrier in, I thought I was going to faint from fear--what did get myself into?--and joy...my son opned the door and out strutted a perfect, amazing fluff ball he named Phoebe...'Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt' (he is a huge Greek Mythology geek). Thank you, Phoebe, for changing my life completely. I cannot imagine it without you. That said, how would you feel about a sister???
