Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
No, Lyric isn't pregnant again! I am "hosting" a new pregnant mom who comes tomorrow and is due this weekend. She is supposed to have two puppies. I still have Rafi here (one of Lyric's pups who is just over 3 months old) and Rio, the one I kept from the litter. Plus, their mom, Lyric is here and my first doodle Mattie--OY! That's a lot of doodles. By Monday, we will have 7 doodles in the house--but two will be very, very small!
I will keep you all posted!

It's over!! We have two new pups in the house! Our April Fool's joke was a predicted snowstorm today that didn't pan out--thank goodness! It certainly would have made things more difficult. The breeder came this morning after Nola had spent about 18 hours panting and trembling. There was no sign of actual labor starting but we decided not to let Nola deliver the pups. It was too stressful since she had two big pups and she is a small (30 pounds) and anxious dog. In addition, there is no vet here that is open on weekends. if she ran into trouble on the weekend, it would be very expensive to treat her at the emergency clinic about 1/2 hour away.
We took her to my local vet and did a C section this afternoon. That took two hours, then another two hours was spent getting her home and comfortable with her pups--at first, she had no idea what to do with them!! I had my vet daughter, Jen on the phone for advice and we were able to convince her to be a mom--luckily, the pups were strong and managed to wait for that first meal for several hours--and all is peaceful now. The breeder was here the whole time and is staying overnight so I can get one good night's sleep before she goes home.
Well, this doodle only weighs 32 pounds--but she didn't even get pregnant on her first heat and inseminatiion, so maybe there is something not quite right about her system. Hosting is the best word I could think of--she is not my dog in any way, she belongs to another woman and the breeder has a contract for a few litters (like I have with my breeder and Lyric) but I am getting paid to have the litter here, care for the mom and pups for 7 weeks and the new owners will come to my house to meet and then pick up the puppies. So, I guess that is sort of like a host! They will leave just before Memorial Day because I am off to my daughter's graduation from Vet school! Can't wait to call her DOCTOR! She stays up all night all the time, Taylor! Usually with cows, though.
