I have a bunny slayer on my hands................

Over the last several days, Lucy has been obsessed with trying to get under my living room deck. We have lattace around the bottom of it and tonight she broke a piece of it down, got under there and found a nest of baby bunnies. She ATE one of them !!!!!!! I am soooooooo upset with her. We have had these 3 rabbits running around in our yard and evidently one of them had babies under the deck. Now, all she wants to do is go outside, and I know what she is going to do, try and get under there again. OH ME OH MY, what am I going to do with my bunny slayer?????????????

Lizzie has eaten 3 birds (that I found evidence of) and at least 2 bunnies; though she luckily hasn't tried to eat any baby kittens at Jason's mom's house! I agree with Karen, though. I hate that she's eaten them, but Kansas does not have any shortage of wild rabbits!

Wow I know how you feel. My parents had a baby nest of birds born a few weeks ago. We were staying there while they were out of town. Peri and her "aunt" Lucy (terrier) were chomping at the bit to go attack. The poor babies were learning how to fly and we had to take the dogs on leashes to the front yard until they got out of there!
Keep us posted. Hopefully the bunnies scram soon...

Thanks for the suggestions, all good except for the muzzle Denise, I just couldn't do that. I am going to look under there today and see if there are any more. Yes, I do agree Karen, they are really "dumb" bunnies for nested near my Lucy. This is HER territory !!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean...it's so unsettling to see one's own dog act like a prey driven beast! So sweet and cuddly, but willing to take down an innocent baby bunny or squirrel or ...
I've heard of some trainers allowing their dogs (if it is of a breed that was bred to hunt rats, or small critters) a chance to do the thing it was bred to do. Not sure where they get their critters though...random wild ones would worry me due to disease risk. And even store bought ones...ewwwww! Too much circle of life for me!

I look upon this kind of thing as our doodles trying to prove Darwin right.
Only a really dumb bunny (pun intended) would make a nest in a yard where dogs hang out. Lucy was just trying to improve the gene pool.

Few years ago, we ran over the bunny's nest that was located right below the root of the tree with the lawn mower.
Babies were OK, but because it was found, by next day, the nest was empty.....Mom had relocated the nest and took the babies!
So, I am thinking that, your bunny might not be under the deck anymore....

tape her mouth shut when she is outside ..lol, but seriously I think the only way to stop that is by using a muzzle on her when she is outside, not good for her to be killing wild animals since you don't know what diseases they may have....So far I have been lucky with Hannah and Honey...if they hurt my Bird, they would find a new home. I equally love my dogs and my African Gray Parrot Shadow. If you remove the nest the baby bunnies will all die, choices would to keep her leashed for a little while, or use a muzzle...not fond of the muzzle, but they can help and some are not as bad as the ones they use in the Vets office.
