Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This article is about actual research done to see just how long today's vaccines will protect a dog--the vet who conducted the research is urging vets to vaccinate less frequently. Of course, this comes at a time when many vets are already struggling to pay the bills, so who knows if they will listen--that is why we will have to advocate for our pooches!

I'm going to print this off and take to my vet. Stuart has turned 2 and is expected to get some additional vaccinations in June. Due to his anaphylaxis problems - I AM TERRIFIED!!! This will be his first vaccinations since the bee sting incident and even the Vet is worried. Stuart re-acted so bad to Trifexis - which is just an oral medication for fleas and heatworm - gave him head tremors, then the anaphylaxis. I asked about Titre testing but the vet assistant on the phone really tried to discourage me by saying that Titre testing is very expensive and isn't accurate. :( The plan is that they are taking Stuart in at the Vet's at 8:00 - are going to PRE-TREAT for a reaction, give him the vaccines and then keep him under watch for the rest of the day. I HAVE DOUBTS I CAN GO THROUGH WITH IT.
ops - no, I did not waste my money with titres this year.
I haven't read the article yet but I wanted to tell you that my vet was invited to an invitation only conference on the topic of changing the time period for vaccines and titres. I asked him to titre both girls, he said he would but I would be wasting my money since they had vaccines since they were puppies, yearly since and they were vaccinated a year prior. Titres would show that they were immune against those diseases.
What the conference was discussing is changing the time period between titres - from 1 to 2 years. They also discussed if our society is vaccinating our dogs too much since the reports show that titres at 1 year shows the dogs are immune. Guess we have to wait to see what they come up with.
