Is there enough insurance to cover the worst dog ever???

Yes, we went back to the groomer ( groomer number two as groomer number one could not handle the likes of Toby).. I went to pick him up and was greeted by "well..... ' ( nothing really good comes after that ). I warned them, really I did but he kind of nipped one if the groomers, no broken skin but she was sent home. I felt so terrible. And of course they start talking about puppy classes, but we already did that.... Should I have done for "extra strength puppy class" ??? He is so loving and I adore him. But should I ( not just him ) now fear the groomer??? Do I need an extra Toby endorsement on my home owners policy ? Is there ever enough insurance for the worst dog ever???? BTW, he does look fabulous.

I know you went to the same trainer as we use for Quincy .  I recommend you take the Family dog 1 course as soon as it's offered!  If your experience is like ours , you will be amazed. We finished Family Dog 2 the end of December and I want to take 3 when it is offered.  We also did a "tricks" class in between which was good for bonding and listening practice.  Good luck.  We look forward to meeting up with you in the spring when the weather defrosts!

Puppy class is more for socialization....it's after that that the real training begins.  I don't think you need an "extra strength puppy class" but you do need an obedience program.  I think Sherri's advice about desensitizing Toby to touch is so important.  As far as your insurance is concerned, I'm convinced with some of our dogs high liability limits are a good move.

I don't really know the background of trip #1 to the groomers, however, you really need to work on this issue immediately.  You said you have been to puppy classes, but that really isn't enough.  Training should really never stop.  I'd get into another training class and when that one is finished I'd get into another.  It sounds like you have a really energetic puppy that likes to dominate over others and he is trying to show the groomer who is boss.  Are you brushing at home or is he going to the groomer with mats?  I would start doing a whole lot of "touch" training in addition to obedience training.  Always have your hands on him anytime he is setting still.  Rub his ears, his toes, between his pads, his tail, his belly (maybe start with his belly).  Maybe anytime he is rebelling against your touching his toes or ears, switch to his belly them back to his toes.  Get him used to being handled and touched.  He needs to learn sit, stand, down, etc which will all be helpful to the groomer.  When you are brushing at home put him up on a table or counter top (they normally behave better up there).  Training is going to be your friend.  Use all the things you are learning in classes during the day in your normal routines.  You seem to have conquered the hard part which is finding a good groomer, now you just have to tackle your puppy so the groomer will continue to groom him.  Good luck.  How about a pic of the grooming job!
