It’s official, Rowdy has allergies! :(

It’s official, Rowdy has allergies! :( We’ve been having a terrible time with Rowdy scratching his face. He would scratch the side of his face until it would bleed. We made numerous trips to the vet and he referred us to a veterinary dermatologist. We finally got skin testing done yesterday and Rowdy indeed has allergies. He is allergic to three kids of mold (Fusarium mix, Aspergillus, and Penicillium), house dust mites, cat epithelium, and moths. So now we finally have some answers as to why he’s been scratching, but of course he has to be allergic to cats and we have 2 cats!! We got them all at the same time because we thought that it would be nice for them to grow up together. Rowdy’s going to start allergy shots. Hopefully they will help. If not I guess we’ll have to pick between our “kids” which is going to be terrible.

Here's a picture of the testing site

Here he in a shirt to protect the site from scratching. He HATED the shirt!

The shirt and the fluffy head is really adorable. I hope everything works out well for Rowdy and the cats.

Well the good news is now you actually KNOW what's going on and can start the treatment. Rowdy is so cute...I love him in the shirt. Here's hoping the shots do the trick and you don't ever have to make that painful choice.

Thanks for everyone's kind words! All of our pets are still young. Rowdy is almost 1 (4/17) and one of the cats just turned 1 and the other is 8 months. We figured that we'd start with some pets before we had kids. It sounds like we should all be able to stay together. :) I think Rowdy looks cute in the shirt too! When he had it on he would NOT move though. It was like he was frozen.

I hope Rowdy is feeling much better now. He looks adorable in his hugging t-shirt. Sending our hugs & kisses to Rowdy <3

The antigens will help Rowdy tolerate the cat dander as well as the other allergens. That's the purpose of the shots. Jack has done very well with them, and cat dander is also one of his triggers.
I hope Rowdy does well with his shots, too! Hugs to you both!

You may want to bathe your cats once a week--we all know cats like a good bath as much as our doodles NOT but they sound young. This may help his allergies :)

Poor little guy. Hopefully the shots will work. Maybe you can keep the cats in certain sections of the house and rowdy in a different area most of the time. I know that would be a pain but It would be hard to give up one of your babies.
