OK, so I know I'm a proud mama of Nugget, but I wanted to just take a minute to brag on her and remind everyone how great these dogs are. I had laparoscopic surgery on Monday (I'm fine and I won't bore you with the details) and Nugget's routine really went from highly active to almost completely sedentary overnight. My DH took Monday and Tuesday off, so Nugget still got her walks, but on Wed AM after everyone else went off to work or school, Nugget and I were on our own. On a normal day, we'd play in the yard and take at least a 2 mile walk before my daughter got home from school. But not this week. After her AM walk with hubby, Nugget just curled up next to me on the couch and we watched lots of movies. She stayed with me all day never complaining or asking to go out until the school bus came when we would walk out to the porch to meet my daughter and then back inside. Then, she and my daughter would have a rowdy game of catch/tug. Then Nug would be right back up on the couch with me while my daughter and I read.
When I think back on how this all must look from her vantage point, since she doesn't understand what was going on, she must think that "Mommy got pretty boring all of a sudden, but that's OK. I'll hang with her anyway."
Today I did venture around the yard with her on her leash and she stayed right with me not tugging at all. (I sort of lived in fear that she might see a squirrel and try to pull the leash fast, but thank goodness, no.)
I'm pretty sure our routine will get back to normal with our walks on Monday, but it is great to know we've got a dog who seems to get the need to be a flexible family member from time to time... and do so graciously.
Enjoy the weekend, everyone and hug your doods!!
Susan
