What a lovely dog Lucy has turned out to be!!!!
Her latest passion - tennis balls. We have them in every color, some squeak some don't. She stands beside the couch every morning and whines until the one of us who has had the first cup of coffee gets the broom and rounds up anywhere from 4 to 8 tennis balls from under the couch. She is still excavating the back yard. We are waiting patiently for that gusher that will rescue us from the 401k losses.

Language-- Lucy is learning new words . I had no idea how important establishing language is for your dog. Don't underestimate the number of words your dog can learn. The most important words for us are stay, stop, leave it, come and most important Ok. If I ask her to stay, she will do so until I say OK. The "come"command has been a tough one. If Lucy senses any anger or panic in our voice ,she will run the other way. We have trained ourselves to fake a happy voice and have a very special treat in our hand. It seems to be working pretty well unless the leaves are blowing around the driveway. We'll keep at it, she's still young.

Temperment- Lucy is a very energetic dog. She really needs alot of exercise. Thankfully, we live on three acres. She chases squirrells, digs holes and tries to climb trees.

Today, she chewed up my favorite makeup brush. She looked like she was wearing lipstick. I forgot to put my slippers on the counter and she chewed a hole in the toe, she ate my favorite Merrill flip flops ( never touched the cheap rubber ones I got at Kmart). i put planted marigolds and impatients on my deck. She pulled all the blossoms off the plants and threw them all over the deck. She's not supposed to be on the bed. So, she sneaks up on the bed when I'm not in the room and throws all the pillows on the floor(she blames my husband). She put a rubber ball in the dishwasher. I thought Jerry did it and he thought I did it. The ball was one of those expensive ones that lights up. Well, it made it through the whole cycle and came out nice and clean. I find tennis balls in my purse, the hamper, behind the flush, in the closet , and who knows where.

Issues- She's still a serious jumper. We have tried everything but she gets so excited when someone comes through the door, she loses control. She bounces around on her back feet like a circus performer. Hopefully, the new training will help. Most of our friends are fine with it, but it's still a bad habit. How lucky we all are to share our lives with these very special dogs!

Haha...love your stories STILL!
Rosco likes to play with his bones and chew balls right next to the couch...and he inevitably loses one underneath...but there's no way he can fit so we too have to use something to get it out each night...

Hello happy, Lil Lucy. Reading about you brings smiles and a giggle--you're such a loving imp! I am forever eager to read what your mum writes about Life with Lucy. Tell her thank you from us.

Hi Sharon, Emma is Lucy's littermate. Aren't these dogs just wonderful?! I have to admit, at the beginning I wondered if I was crazy to start again with an 8-week-old puppy, but she's turned out to be my little love. We go to the dog park most every day, and she's such a little social butterfly. Her tail never stops wagging and she is so good natured and happy, though definitely not a pushover! Anyway, I've enjoyed reading your blogs and hope that we can someday get the "sisters" together.
