Yankee went back to the vet on Thursday to have his foot checked out to see if it was healed. She took the bandage off and we walked him a bit. His foot started to bleed again so she re-bandaged it and said to keep it on a little longer. Their office is closed Sat & Mon so she said if the bandage got wet, to take it off and put a sock or something over his foot. We are to go back on Tuesday.

After 3 days, for some reason Yankee decided to chew the bandage off last night. I didn't notice it till this morning so I checked his foot. The cut seems to be healed BUT he chewed his foot raw between the toe pads and the big pad. I'm assuming he did this while trying to remove the bandage. He kept trying to lick at it so I decided to go get another bandage. I asked DH to watch that he didn't chew anymore while I was gone.

I arrive home and see both dogs at the back gate. Yankee is chewing at his paw and Finn is digging a hole in my garden while they waited for me. I was not pleased. I wasn't sure if I should put anything on the paw so I just bandaged it. Now I have to keep an eye on him so he leaves it alone. Obviously, I can't expect anyone else to watch him.

Maybe his foot was itching like it does when a cut is healing and he wanted to get at it. Do you have any antiseptic spray? I used that on Ozzie when I nicked him when I was grooming him and he seemed to leave the cut alone. I bought it at Petsmart.

I bought children's sized socks to slip over the foot. It worked for me and kept the bandage clean. When we took Gordie out and the grass was wet, we slipped a dog poop bag into the sock before putting it on.

We used gauze, neosporin and "Sports Tape" with our other dog. It's the only tape that stayed on his fur but didn't pull the fur out when we removed it. I always keep a roll in the house for "just in case.'

I use to put neosporin on wounds for my dogs and it would heal them up right away...also I would go to walmart, k-mart or dollar store where they sell baby booties, you can tape them on. Used them on Hannah when she has her eye surgery and worked out pretty good.

I'm guessing DH landed in the "dog house". My DH says he spends half his time getting in and the other half getting out. LOL

Poor Yankee! I cane imagine he must have been finding the bandage itchy or something. What can you do now? Doggy boots?

So sad that noone can do the job that we Mom's do! I am sorry that his foot is taking so long to heal. I wonder if 'liquid bandage' might help.
