Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We are planning to move from California to Hawaii in June. We were there for a two week vacation/business trip to determine if this would work out for us and the answer is decidedly, "Yes".
My DD and I have chronic daily migraines. Hers are significantly worse than mine. For almost five years she has been unable to work or even live on her own due to daily excruciating pain. For some reason we both feel better in Hawaii. It just so happens that the company my DH works for has a Honolulu office and they have agreed to have him make the move.
We lived in Hawaii in the 1980s when our kids were little and I loved it. My DH felt like the world was passing him by even though he loved the climate and activities. To which I asked, "And your point is???" 28 years later we are going back, and I am mostly thrilled. We have to leave our DS and his precious family behind. It will be extremely hard to do that. Those grandkids are a strong draw, but our suffering daughter needs a chance at a better quality of life. So now begins the work of getting our house ready to rent. Can you say P.U.R.G.E? Let the games begin.
In the 80's dogs had to be quarantined for four months when moving to Hawaii. Mercifully, now that requirement is waived for dogs whose vaccines are up-to-date. I could not imagine putting my doodles in quarantine that long!
There is gonna be lots more of this:

CONGRATULATIONS. I have only been to Hawaii once but I loved loved loved it. There is something very special about the climate. If I could afford it, I would be there right now. I am thrilled for this second chance for health for you and your daughter. I say dump it all and start fresh!
Thank you for all of the encouragement, BG, Laurie, Janie and Donna.
I started sorting today. My goodness. It is amazing how many things one accumulates that you would never consider moving with you! EEK!
It's something how it all fell into place and your husband can continue to work for his company. I hope this helps your daughter and you and you both feel much better! And who wouldn't feel better in Hawaii! Now I can guess where the name Kona came from.. ! All the best, looking forward to some beach photos!!
Bonnie, I am so happy for you and hope the move continues to help your daughter and you. You are such a kind and wonderful person and I am sure this was not an easy decision, but I bet great changes are ahead for all of you!! Congratulations!
I remember you saying that Hawaii was good for you both. I am glad that an opportunity to make the move has arisen. I feel terrible for the pain you and your DD have been enduring. I am so glad you will have a chance at relief.
Thank you, Nicky, Ronna and Carol. We are going with high hopes!
Sherri... you are definitely welcome to visit us. We put an offer on a townhouse big enough for guests, but people with "all cash" got it. We do NOT have all cash! haha
Oh Bonnie, This sounds like a wonderful move and I hope it is a positive thing health wise for you and your DD!
Wishing you all the best....and feeling a little bit envious too!!! : )
This is very exciting Bonnie! I so hope this is the answer you have been looking for....AND......can I come visit?:)
I'm so hoping that your DD finds Hawaii good for her and that she gets rid of those debilitating migraines and that you all settle there and only find happiness in your new home.
