I took Fergie to a new teacher - one who has come highly recommended from numerous people. Anyway, we went for our first intermediate obedience class. I told her that she had already passed "pre-novice" classes, and has passed both her CGC and her TDI tests. I want to teach her some fun stuff that we could use in our Therapy visits.
Our first class we started out with sit. We moved on to stay - stay for 30 seconds. I told her she'd stay long enough for me to drink a couple of beers - longer than 30 seconds. Not even a smile. She then used Fergie for examples to teach a couple of other things in class. Our goal at graduation is for them to sit and stay for 2 minutes. In our TDI she had to sit and stay for 3 minutes.

Am I nuts or should I be paying money for this? (or should she pay me?) Hopefully, she was just trying to see what level our dogs were at - only 3 in class - and next week we will have some more challenges.

Any comments.

Cathy, is there some criteria for what they mean by "intermediate" in this particular class? In some places, "intermediate" obedience is just the next class after the basic puppy classes where the dogs just learn the most basic stuff. That was what I took Jack to when I first got him, and he was nowhere near the level Fergie is...he still probably wouldn't pass the CGC. But he did fine in the intermediate level obedience class at this particular training place.
Point being, maybe Fergie needs to be in a higher level class. Is there one? Maybe you could speak to the teacher and ask if there will be enough challenge for Fergie in this particular class.
