We were blow drying/ brushing Huff after his bath and we found a ... TICK!  It was on his elbow. It was a little weird looking-kind of like a spider. It was actually attached this time. It was pretty big and gross.

I'm heading to the woods of S.E. Missouri this summer and am concerned about tick protection.  This is an older blog and was wondering if anyone has any updates on products?  It looks like Frontline Plus is popular.  Has anyone had much success with essential oils such as  rose geranium?

F Parker- I don't know for sure but I heard that any sudsy bath should suffocate fleas but I don't know about ticks. he tick we found on him actually was almost like hanging off. It was alive though.

Jennifer and Jack- Me too haha:) I also heard that Sentry works well and we have it but haven't used it yet. I never heard that cinnamon oil was bad for dogs- who knew?

Nancie- no, he hasn't been frolicking in the fields but a few hours before we found it on him, he was at a fundraiser event where there were a lot of dogs. I thought he must have got it from one of the dogs there.

Ticks have been bad this year! Hudson has already had 2 on him. We use Frontline Plus, and thank goodness he had just had an application about 2 weeks before we found the first one. It was just dead in his hair (very near the application site). The second one was found about 2 weeks later. It was attached but dead. He doesn't go in fields or the woods, but we do live in a more rural area.

Where do you think he got it?  Do you take him out into fields?  Ticks are something that are not common here in San Diego...at least towards the coast.  You are more northeast from us though.

Sorry. I hate ticks.. If you are using a natural product I heard Centry works well, I still have to research it because it has a lot of cinnamon oil in it and I thought that was toxic to dogs...

I wonder if the shampoo does any good. Even Frontline does not prevent the ticks from attaching but they hopefully die soon.

I had even just finished giving him a flea and tick bath (for prevention, it is an all natural shampoo) He had just been to a fundraiser event and there were a bunch of other dogs there, he probably got it there.

It happens. One of the doods I rescued had nearly a hundred on him. He was loose for so long. I just took them off one by one then gave him a good bath.

yuck. I think I will freak out if I ever found a tick on Sophie Bear. I hope the preventative medicine I gave her will work. Poor HuffyDoodle! I hope he is ok now.
