The past two weeks seemed to be one of those periods where different ailments (none major) seemed to hit one right after another. About a week and 1/2 ago I was definitey achy and know that I was having a hard time staying comfortable throughout the night. Due to migraine medicines my blood pressure sometimes gets a little low too and that had been an issue earlier in the day. At about 3 AM, Whopper jumped up on the bed, got right in my face, jumped off the bed and started barking. My husband got up to see if she needed to go out but as soon as he got out of the bed, she jumped in and snuggled up right next to me and refused to move. In the morning my husband asked me about it and all I could think was that she must have sensed I wasn't feeling right and wanted to let him know. A few nights later it happened again and now my husband was getting a little frustrated with the middle of the night wakeups. He loves her and is willing to take her out if she needs to go but doesn't like getting up for no reason. Again, we weren't quite sure what to make of it but decided that Whopper is beyond a doubt a mommy's girl (I already knew this). Well, last night at about 4 AM my throat was incredibly dry and I let out a few little coughs. Within 2 seconds Whopper was up on the bed and sniffing my face. Again, she jumped off, barked until my husband got up, and then jumped right into the bed and laid there with me until I got up for work. At this point I'm beginning to find it comforting that she's so concerned about me but don't want her to become nuts with every cough or change of position. We certainly have a very sensitive dood! Anyone else have a dood that is so in tune with you?

Hondo was my therapy dog. Once I was sick for two days after taking a new medication and he came into bed with me and did not leave except to eat or go to the bathroom. He also would get into bed and lie next to me if he was not feeling well. He usually slept on his bed at the foot of our bed except when he was sick. He never would touch us getting into bed and I would not know he was there until I woke up or rolled over. But if he was in bed during the night, I knew he was sick. Whopper may be alerting your husband that something is wrong with you. Dogs have a sense that something is wrong. Do some reading on this. Therapy dogs are trained specifically to scent changes.

Whopper LOVES his Mommy! How sweet!

Oh yes! DEFINITELY! I also see it if I'm raising my voice (not even yelling - MOST times) at my boys.... she gets upset and runs and hides in her crate. That makes me sad... I have to call her out and reassure her, and then she's off.. unless.... she's working in cahoots with the boys and wants to divert my attention from what they were being reprimanded about!

Whopper was not going to be fooled with fake coughs! I do think that our dogs are tuned into us.

Yes, they are incredibly sensitive and intuitive. My guys (but Guinness especially) stick like glue (normally they only stick like velcro) whenever I'm sick. They're very special.

I think Lee feels a lot like Chris. This morning all he wanted was for Whopper to come snuggle with him but because she was so in tune with me she refused. I would get her up there but unless I stayed she insisted on relocating with me. Lee even let out a few coughs and she didn't even look in his direction.

Whopper is so sweet! Quinn is the same with me. Every time I cough or sneeze - every time - he jumps up and comes over to me, looking concerned. Chris finds it mildly annoying because Quinn does not do this for him. :) If the barking gets out of control you can do regular training for it I suppose, but hey, it's still sweet.

Yes. I had a stomach bug recently - Peri would wait outside the door and whine until I came out - then she stuck to me like glue. She sleeps right next to me where DH usually sleeps when I have been home with a cold. She sniffs my face and looks concerned if I sneeze, cough, etc..
And last night we were up all night worried abot our other dog. I was very upset and was crying - she followed me everywhere, like my shadow and would lick me. Now that's one heck of a companion.
