A rainy blustery day and my kitchen floor is nothing but muddy pawprints from my two doods. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's kind of like fingerprints and messes when your kids are little...once they are wiped clean they are gone forever (yes, I did wipe them clean haha...but sometimes wish I had "missed" a couple here and there). A friend of mine recently lost her beloved dog and for months couldn't bring herself to wipe off the nose prints off the sliding glass window where he would sit and look out. He got off his leash and got hit by a car so this was a sudden loss/shock. So as I look at my rust colored tile floor covered with the gray and brown prints from my doods' paws I am going to just be thankful that I have them both to enjoy, and that they are happy and healthy...doing their favorite things by running and digging in the mud and water. The mop can wait awhile.

You're so right!  Before Sedona, I thought a scratch-free hardwood floor was SO important.  Now, every scratch is evidence of her love, joy, companionship...

What a sad thing for your friend.  I have so much dirt, wood chips, and leaves that the dogs drag in every day. But, this would be such an empty life and house, if they weren't messing up the hardwood floors.  It's raining here today. They are worth the mess many times over.  Thanks for posting this.

I suddenly lost my beloved Lucy and did the opposite. I would get hysterical every time I saw something that reminded me of Lucy. I wanted to stop upsetting my kids so I went psycho and got rid of everything!! Between you and me. I would still get hysterical I just hid it. I will send thoughts to your friend!

Great perspective...thanks for sharing!  It's raining here today, so there will be plenty of mud, and I will remember this.

When I lost winston to heart failure last year, I did the same thing your friend did.  We have hardwood floors and I can see his prints on the floor when the sun shines in through the door.  I refused to mop my floors for about 2 months or so...cried the whole time I finally gave in.

Today we have Bailey and she is always bringing in her messy little paws...AND I LOVE IT!!

My house is never clean now because of the doods - and I'm a neat freak.  Sometimes I just have a have that second glass of wine to get over it :)             Sending a prayer to your friend that her heart heals.

I think my house would have 50% less stuff and at least 200 % less dirt if I didn't have doodles, not a good trade off I think.
