Yesterday morning, Penny told us it was time for her to go. Her mast cell cancer, which she had fought valiantly for more than a year, just plain wore her out.
We spent the day saying our final thank you's and goodbyes. In the afternoon, a very special hospice vet came to the house, and Penny went to sleep in her favorite spot, surrounded by more love than the room could hold. She went peacefully and you could see the relief on her face that she was no longer in pain.
While we are, of course, devastated, we are happy that she is no longer suffering. We feel very good that we knew when the time was right without her suffering more than she had to. And there are no words to relate the amount of joy she has given us over the last 7 years. She was not only an amazing member of the family; she made the love between my husband Ron and myself all that stronger.
We move forward one day at a time with broken but full hearts. Now it is time to love and care for Biscuit as she tries to find her way without her big sister.
We want to thank each and every one of you who have continued to reach out to us during this past year. We joined DoodleKisses when it was just brand new, and have made friends for a lifetime. Your love and concern have meant the world to us, and we look forward to sharing Biscuit's life with you the days unwind.
Penny loved you all... and so do we.

How very sorry I am for your loss. I thought about Penny often and prayed that she was doing well. She certainly knew how loved she was and she will not be forgotten.
I'm so sorry for your loss Michele... you tribute to Penny has me in tears, it is so difficult to loose a family member, she will always be in your heart and memories.
I am so sorry for your loss. She wil always be loved and never forgotten.
Your tribute to Penny was beautiful and I cried all the way through it. I was attracted to Penny the very first time I saw her photo because she reminded me so much of my Gracie Doodle. So many of your pictures I have to do a double take. I am so, so, sorry to hear that she has moved on across the bridge. I understand exactly how much she meant to you because we feel the same way. What a sad day but what wonderful love and memories she leaves behind.
{{HUGS}} to you!!! I'm so sorry for your loss of such a fabulous friend. I have enjoyed getting to know Penny on DK and seeing all her gorgeous photos. I'm pleased that she also graced our calendar =) For some reason I had thought she was a bit younger, and although 7 years is not very long, I'm glad you had those wonderful years with her. She was totally a WonderDog!
I'm so sorry to hear of Penny's passing. Your video tribute to her is beautiful. Find peace in knowing that you gave her a wonderful life full of love. Blessings to you, your family and Biscuit. RIP sweet Wonder Dog!
I am so sorry for your loss. The tribute as others have mentioned really depicts the love Penny was given.
This poem comforted me when I lost my lab two years ago..I know many know it but its worth reading again now-
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I did not want to watch the video because I didn't think I could but I just did. I pray for healing in those deep, deep places of your heart that have been devastated by the loss of your beloved Penny. Prayers for Biscuit too for the loss of her doodle sister. May you be comforted in knowing that you did all that you could to give Penny the best life possible. In looking at the wonderful loving video of her life I think she knew just how blessed she was.
Aww..sorry for your loss of Penny. Your video/slideshow was very sweet...she looks like she was a loved girl who will be missed dearly.
Penny the wonder dog touched so many of us on this site along with her wonderful family that took such loving care of her. You loved her enough to know when the time was right to say goodbye. She will not be forgotten.
