Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Choosing Bug was probably one of the hardest decisions I had to make!  My friend was the breeder so I was given almost any pick of the litter I wanted... I of course leaned to the two smallest.  The litter's mommy was the runt of her litter... and the tiniest in this litter was super tiny.  I have a thing for underdogs and also teach students with special needs so of course I am always drawn to the "misfit" in the group.  My ideal doodle would have wavy hair and be perfect.

The two I narrowed it down to were the two tiniest... the second tiniest was a beautiful color.  Visually I was instantly drawn to it.... but the tiny runt was sooooo precious!  The breeder family loved the runt like their own and I know were rooting for me to choose it.  I sent pictures out to my parents, siblings, friends and everyone voted for the runt (I guess growing up near Cleveland, you are raised to root for the underdogs (Go Browns!, Go Tribe!)... or my family and friends (and I) all just have big hearts.

I over-worry about everything so of course I was worried something would be wrong with the runt or it would grow to be super tiny (I didn't want anything smaller than a beagle and secretly hoped that it is a little taller than one).  I called my boyfriend crying (yes seriously) and he said to get the darker (second smallest one).  I said... "But what about the runt!?"  haha... he said, "Then get the runt"... I said "But I love the color of the darker one... " Mike (my bf), who always knows exactly how to talk to me when I am being an emotional ninny asked... "What is most important to you... temperament, behavior, or color?" ... ummm that was an easy answer... both of the very young pups (only about 2.5 weeks old...I needed to choose very early because there was interest in the runt) didn't do too much more than eat and sleep... but the runt seemed to be even more calm than the other.  He was happy curled up into you, never whined or whimpered and seemed to try and come to me when I called.  After talking to everyone and having the discussion with my boyfriend... I knew that I would always wonder what happened to the little guy if I didn't take him... and so there it was... Bug (the runt of the litter) was mine!  The breeder was so excited and happy with my choice.

He's still a lil small fry but he still pulls on my heart strings.  I hope he has a beautiful coat and a good size as he grows... he's still super tiny compared to some of his siblings.. but he has his teeth while some of the others don't.  Bug is small but mighty... and he's all mine <3

Thanks Janie, Jackson, and Jilly... I think I did too!  Your little doodles are adorable! (Aren't they all though!?)  Thanks for reading my blog and your positive support!  I am going to see Bug today, I can't wait to see how he's changed.  I saw him just 4 days ago but every time I go he is just a bit different :o)  Any advice you have before I bring the little guy home in a couple of weeks would be great!

Yup, they grow up so fast... Like a weed! When we got Gibbs on May 4th, he was just 7 weeks old and about 8 lbs only. My husband chose him because of his golden shade, while I chose him for his temperament. I noted that he was an observer before he joins in. He was not as rambunctious as his other siblings and he showed some manners. Gibbs is now 19 weeks old. He weighed 29 lbs three weeks ago. This doodle loves to cuddle and be hugged... but aren't they all? I remember the first 4 nights... I never would have believed that my tiny puppy can howl as loud as a wolf... 4 sleepless nights. But it was all so worth it. (I added a radio and a nightlight on the 5th night and it worked its magic on him).
Exciting times ahead for you! Enjoy the puppy honeymoon and congrats! :D

Thanks Ellen & GIBBS... From what I have been reading it does seem that the puppies change quite a bit as they grow... I can't wait to watch my lil Bug grow up!  He looks so tiny next to his litter mates but good things come in small packages! haha... I get to visit him tomorrow!  I can't wait to see how he has changed :o)

Aww... So exciting! I also would have chosen temperament over colour anytime. I was told that their fur & shade will still change, even up to 18 months! Great choice!
