Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Choosing Bug was probably one of the hardest decisions I had to make! My friend was the breeder so I was given almost any pick of the litter I wanted... I of course leaned to the two smallest. The litter's mommy was the runt of her litter... and the tiniest in this litter was super tiny. I have a thing for underdogs and also teach students with special needs so of course I am always drawn to the "misfit" in the group. My ideal doodle would have wavy hair and be perfect.
The two I narrowed it down to were the two tiniest... the second tiniest was a beautiful color. Visually I was instantly drawn to it.... but the tiny runt was sooooo precious! The breeder family loved the runt like their own and I know were rooting for me to choose it. I sent pictures out to my parents, siblings, friends and everyone voted for the runt (I guess growing up near Cleveland, you are raised to root for the underdogs (Go Browns!, Go Tribe!)... or my family and friends (and I) all just have big hearts.
I over-worry about everything so of course I was worried something would be wrong with the runt or it would grow to be super tiny (I didn't want anything smaller than a beagle and secretly hoped that it is a little taller than one). I called my boyfriend crying (yes seriously) and he said to get the darker (second smallest one). I said... "But what about the runt!?" haha... he said, "Then get the runt"... I said "But I love the color of the darker one... " Mike (my bf), who always knows exactly how to talk to me when I am being an emotional ninny asked... "What is most important to you... temperament, behavior, or color?" ... ummm that was an easy answer... both of the very young pups (only about 2.5 weeks old...I needed to choose very early because there was interest in the runt) didn't do too much more than eat and sleep... but the runt seemed to be even more calm than the other. He was happy curled up into you, never whined or whimpered and seemed to try and come to me when I called. After talking to everyone and having the discussion with my boyfriend... I knew that I would always wonder what happened to the little guy if I didn't take him... and so there it was... Bug (the runt of the litter) was mine! The breeder was so excited and happy with my choice.
He's still a lil small fry but he still pulls on my heart strings. I hope he has a beautiful coat and a good size as he grows... he's still super tiny compared to some of his siblings.. but he has his teeth while some of the others don't. Bug is small but mighty... and he's all mine <3

Thanks Lori&Quincy... I love little Bug and have become obsessed with him! I still worry about his adult size a little bit, but can't wait to bring him home! Sounds like Quincy waited for the perfect owner... you! :o) Thanks for your comment... let me know if you have any advice for a new doodle owner :o)
Bug is so cute! Looks and sounds like you made the right choice! Quincy was the last and a sort of "left-over" from two litters born within a day. I called the breeder and picked him up the next day at 11 weeks. I like to think he waited for us!
hahaha... oh Lonnie&LibbyLu... you sound like my sister and surprisingly my mom! I would love to take the whole litter if I could haha! I keep telling the breeder that if it doesn't get purchased I will take both, but she keeps telling me no (She tends to be like a second mom to me) I would love to have 2 but can't afford both I don't think. Annnd my boyfriend has a chocolate lab... he said I am limited to one! haha... If I am being honest, now when I go back, I actually find bug to be cuter than the other one... I can't wait to see how he grows :o) Thanks for reading my blog! :o)
I think you did the right thing, but if you still have questions in your mind, get the other one too:) Think how cute they would be together:)
