Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My bestest gf was waiting to adopt a rescue puppy.  She is retiring in a few weeks and wanted to wait till she was home all day to bring the baby home forever.  She brought her home the past two weekends, returning her on Sunday evenings.  It has been killing her to wait, but was so torn about the weekend trips, and/or just waiting two more weeks to bring her home forever.  So this weekend she decided maybe its too tough on the baby to drag her back and forth and decided to get some things done and be tough and wait it out, I mean its only two more weeks right?

Well OMG!  She received an email this morning from the rescue organization that the foster home had a fire in their home last evening and that all 7 of the doggies there perished in the fire!  She called me in hysterics after she received the email.  I am simply at a loss as to what more can I say.  This is such a tragedy I dont have the vocabulary to express how horrible we feel.  She is barely consolable, thinking that she should have gone to pick her up last evening for the weekend visit.  It has been a very sad afternoon.

Sharon, you cannot blame yourself.  This is such a terrible story :(  Your friend will heal with time, just be there fore her as I am sure you have been.

Oh, so sorry--these things happen--even to nice people and dogs--it certainly isn't your fault. Perhaps you can help her find a new dog and that would help heal both of your hearts.

I lost a Doodle puppy many years ago in a fire while he was boarding while we were on holidays. No email then, just a letter on the mat when we arrived home.  I was ten years old at the time and have never forgotten that dog and how heartbroken I was.  This is a huge loss for your friend and hopefully you will be there for her.  Please pass on all the sympathy that I have and from all the other DK people here too, who I'm sure will really understand what she must be going through.

I am very sorry to hear of that tragedy. My heart aches for your friend and all of the other animals lost. She will be a very loving mom eventually to another dog in need soon.

Sharon, As sad as you are for your dear friend and the loss she is grieving, please do not own any part of this tragedy. No one can make someone do what they do not want to do. You did not cause the fire or make your friend do anything. You care so much for her. I hope you will be kind to yourself as you seek to find ways to comfort your friend. Blessings.

i told her she shoudnt worry about getting her for the weekends and having her neighbor take her out during the day.  it would only be two more weeks and the the doggie was hers all day every day. i convinced her to wait.. i feel terible.
