Definite NO on rawhide...........My Doodle Lexi will tear them to little pieces. I give her CET Chews. http://www.virbacvet.com/cet/ I get them on line or my vet also sells them. They are natural, can be digested and my Vet swears by them. Much better then rawhide.

As far as Nyla bones , there have been numerous lawsuits against them because dogs are breaking their teeth on them and pieces breaking off have resulted in dogs choking and developing intestinal blockages. My daughter has two dogs, not Doodles, and as a result of Nylabones, incurred in excess of $4,000.00 in Vet bills for extractions and dental work . She located an attorney on the net that was already in a class action suit with Nylabone and the company, after a review of the Vet reports, actually settled with her rather then have her participate in the class action litigation. I always thought they were a good product, but learned different. Go to these websites or Google Nylabone lawsuits and you will never again buy another Nylabone .

Luckily you were able to get the chew out of Xena's throat.

Xena loves the bullysticks & does really well with them. I did buy a bag of the CET chews for her teeth & Im always around when she's chewing. Unfortunately Xena wont be getting them anymore - she choked on it & I had to shove my hand down her throat to get it out. Scariest moment!!  They looked just like rawhide to me but I heard they were vet approved esp to clean the teeth so I thought they were ok.

Thanks for the information. Ned loves Nylabones. I have always gotten my dogs Nylabones and have NEVER had a dog like Ned who just chews them up like fudge. I wonder if they have changed their formula? My other dogs were never that interested in them. I guess Ned will have to learn to love something else.

I also had a bad experience with Nylabones. My GR broke one of his incisors on one. That cost me about $800. I would love to get into that class action.

I'm really happy to have come across this. I was finding the special smaller brown ones especially for teething awesome! I gave them to Dandy everytime he had something inappropriate in his mouth, gnawing on it with a vengence. I thought they were great! They did break down quite quickly at the knuckle ends though at which time I replaced them because you're right at that point I did notice much larger pieces begin to chip and break off. But I didn't think too much about it. I grabbed it and replaced it with a new one only thinking at the time that it was kind of a waste because you had to throw them out even though only one end was finished..DUHH I sure didn't think that one on through! I did see rather LARGE pieces slinter off, even took a couple out of his mouth without even giving it a second thought. And a few weeks later when Rocky was teething went out and bought more still thinking what a marvelous teething tool they were. I just took it out of his mouth and threw it away. Thanks very much!
I'd prefer damaged furniture legs and baseboards to a puppy with a perforated bowel! Or the like.
Once again proving what an invaluable Site that this is too belong too.

I am so glad I ran across your comment here about Nyla Bones! I told my boyfriend that I didn't think they were a good idea for Tressel...he was going through them really fast! I knew they weren't good for him! Of course, he doesn't believe me...
I will NOT be giving Tressel those anymore. Haven't yet, but I'll have to check out the link you included for the CET Chews.
Thanks so much!!! :) Have a good day...
