For months now I have watched Shaggy become well....more shaggy and I've loved it!  His coat is SO different from Fozzie's that I frankly didn't know what would become if it and what I would do with it.  I tried taking pictures to show what I'm trying to describe but I'm not the photographer many of you are.  Anyway, I made an appointment for tomorrow with my groomer friend who does all the clipping, cutting, scissoring on Fozzie (I bath, brush, and trim but the full body cut I'll leave to her).  We make a day out of my appointments talking while the "hair flies".  Right now at this moment (I say this because in the next moment I may change my mind) but right NOW, my plan is to have his hair shaved at the longest legnth possible in hopes of evening up the growth.  The hair down his back is several inches longer than the hair on his sides, belly, and legs.  The hair under his tail is fluffy like a retriever.  His legs have whispy hairs as does his ears.  He has a goat beard and some funky visor like hair over his eyes but the top of his head is short.

I'm not worried about my groomer doing anything I don't want and she won't do anything that will make him look bad.  I just needed to decide what to do:)  That is what led me to DK, looking for pictures of doodles similar to Shaggy to see what others are doing with "shaggy" like doodle hair.  I'm as excited about Shaggy's new doo as I get for my own =)

Shaggy did great for his first professional grooming. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience! We only clipped the hair on his back and around his paws. I do like the shaggy look but it needs to be a shaggy look I can maintain. I couldn't believe how much fuzzy hair came off him while blowing him dry. I thought I had done a better job brushing than that :( I'm curious to see how fast his hair will grow and what it will look .

I'll post pictures as soon as I get to a regular computer.

He is so cute.  I wouldn't get a full cut on him - maybe just a face cleanup.  His legs are already pretty smooth so maybe just a little trim here and there and his toenails trimmed and ears cleaned and trimmed up a little.  That should do it, especially if you like the shaggy look.  (Besides, it goes with his name.)

Shaggy looks like Auggie on your pictures. And Auggie had his first haircut yesterday. I'm going to post a couple of comparison pictures on my page, so feel free to look. I did like how shaggy Auggie was before the haircut, but I'm starting to like his new do.

Wow, this is a tough one.  I really like his shaggy look.  The only thing I'm not sure of is how old he is?  I'm guessing still a puppy as you say his first cut.  My initial thoughts would be to just trim up his face over his eyes and then just let him grow for awhile.  Unless of course you are having matting problems or serious shedding issues.  A couple I would suggest taking a look at are Jane Rooney and Stuart (her stuart is similar but looks like his coat is much thicker).  Also Karen and JackDoodle.  She has just let JD's coat grow and it is gorgeous.  I don't think JD's coat has ever been cut.  Regardless of what you decide, I'm sure he will still be just as adorable as he is now.  And, as everything here is fond of saying, It Will Grow Back!

I think Shaggy is adorable even without his forthcoming "new do" and I am sure he will come through the "cut" just beautifully.  I know the first time I took Libby I was so nervous and I did not want to leave the place, but finally our groomer said, "Lonnie, everything will be fine" hint, hint.  So I walked out bravely and waited for the phone call to say she was done.  She came home happy and looked great and this DM had a smile:)
