Spring Time = Sloppy, wet weather

Well it's spring time here in Northern Ontario. To most people Spring time means warmer weather, fresh beginnings, sweet smell of fresh air. Well, to us it means rain, rain, wet snow, rain and more rain.  Most of our winter snow has melted, but we have just gotten a few inches of wet, sticky snow over night; it will melt by tomorrow as it is supposed to be fairly warm +13°C.  My issues with this weather is that Chloe will not go pee or poop in the backyard now that the snow is gone and the lawn feels "squishy".  When I let her out she will just stand at the back door and stare into the house. I can swear she is thinking that I am completely nuts if I think she is going to walk on that wet and soggy grass!  She will not go pee before bedtime, like she usually does. She will hold it until the morning, and even then at times will not go when I let her out when we get up. She will hold it until our walk.   I'll see if she does anything when I go home for lunch and let her out.

April 25, 2017 -  Chloe has finally been starting to do her business in the yard again....still with some reluctance. We've had a few drier, warmer days which has helped the ground thaw and the water drain more. Happy to see her going pee when she's let out and not having her hold it until she bursts!!!

No more issues with Chloe not wanting to do her business in the yard.  Now and again when it is raining she fusses, but still goes out does what she has to do very quickly.  We'll see how it is next spring.

Yeah,  I had to actually go outside and stand with her for a few days.  She is finally getting better as the ground has thawed more and is draining quicker.  She still doesn't like the backyard when it rains, but she is getting better.

The whole weather and pee/poop problems must be a real pain.  On a very limited understanding my son had a huge doberman who didn't like wet ground and we had to stand in the yard with him and keep blocking his re-entrance to the house until he had gone, but this was Southern California where it isn't wet continuously.

Things are looking up.  The weather has still been wet enough, but we've had some dry days too. The ground is thawing so the water is finally draining quicker.  Chloe hasn't been as reluctant to do her business in the yard the past few days.

The funny thing is, she will run through the soggy wet grass if you throw her ball for her....she sure doesn't mind that!!   In the summer, on rainy day walks, she is quite happy to jump in mud puddles and get dirty....just not in our yard!  It's really strange

How are things going now?  I am too far south for snow this time of year, but we've been having plenty of rain for the past several days.  Thankfully my 14 week old puppy is adapting well.  She is happy to walk around in wet, soggy ground and puddles, and I am hard pressed to keep her out of the muddy spots.  We've also discovered that she is willing to pee on concrete for the sake of expediency when it is raining really hard, because we humans are not too fond of standing outside in heavy rain!
