Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I wanted to share a couple of experiences that really demonstrates the magic of the web and social media. Six years ago we lost our old Jack to cancer. My husband was crushed and wanted a dog that looked exactly like Jack. I searched Petfinder and found our Moose. He was in a shelter in South Carolina. DH and I drove overnight 600 miles to pick him up. The shelter was outdoors in a very poor area. The shelter was so impressed that we came so far that we were featured in their local paper. Fast forward to last night. I received an email from the shelter volunteer out of the blue. She remembered us and there was a dog in the shelter that she thought we might be interested. Once I saw the dog I realized he looked a lot like a doodle. I got on Facebook and contacted DRC. Then I saw there was another doodle-looking dog. The angels who volunteer and work for the DRC kicked it into high gear. I have never experienced such a frenzy. They were able to make arrangements to pull these two dear doodles.

My other experience happened last spring. I was training with a running group. A beagle followed us and did not have a collar. She appeared lost so I took her home. A friend runs a website for lost and found pets. I posted her photo and info (she was no chipped), and within 24 hours she was back with her family. It is amazing the number of lost and found pets that my friend posts each night.

Without the magic of the web I would never have found my Moose a rare dog from Spain, a woman in South Carolina would not have contacted a woman in Indianapolis about a shelter dog. I would never know about Doodle Rescue Collective in New Jersey. They would never have been able to spread the word so fast to the volunteers in South Carolina to save two doodles. A beagle might not have found his home after following a pack of runners. I would never have known all of you. Most of all thanks Al Gore for inventing the internet.

Wonderful post, it's refreshing to be reminded of the great things that can be done through this medium.

Yay Al Gore : )))) I still have lived for more of my life without an internet than with one but I just can't understand how any longer. What cute rescues. Good job.

Rescue stories are such a nice way to start the morning!  Riley and Bingo are so cute, too!  and now so clean and groomed.

Gorgeous Doodles. I'm so happy they are now safe and getting all the love and care they need to send them onto their 'forever homes'.

Great story of the connectedness of things. The world has undergone immense shifts. If there’s anything remodeling society, it’s the Internet.

Wonderful internet indeed, helping countless animals daily. A woman in Ireland called Lors runs a FB page and is responsible for reuniting thousands of dog with their owners. Another woman in Co Kerry rescues horses and has rescued 100's simply using FB and a website to spread the word. I would not have met all of you and would not have made real friends had it not been for DK and the knowledge I have gained here has been invaluable when it comes to making choices in how I care for my Doodles. Just one thing...Al Gore didn't invent the internet. It was several people and the one I think that we can thank is Tim Berners Lee who invented the world wide web HTML. Al Gore coined the phrase 'Information Superhighway'....  Thank you for saving those two doodles, I was watching the whole rescue unfold on FB and it's a fantastic story worthy of much Thanksgiving.

Suzanne, you did indeed help to save those two doodles' lives. I'm happy to report that they are both now safely in foster care with a DRC volunteer. They are filthy, infested with parasites, and totally bewildered by all that happened to them. They came from a truly horrific hoarding situation.

Much as I sometimes hate FB and the internet in general, there are times when I'm very grateful for it, and this is one of them.

Thanks for making sure that those two wonderful doodles were saved by DRC and for caring for the poor beagle and bringing him home to his family.  The world needs more people like you Suzanne...Bless You!
