Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We have had a couple of discussions lately about our Doodles and if we are educated enough when we bring one into our family. Christmas is also right around the corner and many people have that new puppy on their Holiday list. I thought this would be a timely re-post.

Thanks for resurfacing this, Laurie. This is so important.
Thanks so much for bringing this out of the archives Laurie. I wish every dog could be as loved as our own.....this breaks my heart.
Bonnie, not only do people have the option of no-kill shelters, they also have the option of private rescue groups like DRC, which they could have contacted to begin with. Every community in the U.S. has private rescue groups. It is true that private shelters and rescues do not take every dog, and there are some questions asked, but these were all highly adoptable young doodles. Ignorance, pure and simple, and a lack of any concern for the dog...which of course are the reasons the dogs get dumped at all.
Thank you for re-posting, Laurie.
Karen, This is making me sick to my stomach. I must be naive; aren't there non-kill shelters available in most areas? Do people not have the option of non-kill shelters or what?
DRC pulled 4 doodles from kill shelters this past holiday weekend. Gorgeous young dogs, all owner relinquished, which means there is no hold time; they can be euthanized before the owner drives out of the parking lot. One was pulled from a high-kill shelter the day before Thanksgiving, literally at the 11th hour. Our volunteer left work to get there in time to save him. This particular doodle was dumped with his registration papers; he came from a so-called "reputable breeder" and probably has littermates right here on DK.
Couldn't be more timely, Laurie. Bless you.
