Whose fault is this?????????????????????? Doodles are smarter than you think

First part of the story...............
I have an invisable fence for Lucy. She has had this for about 2 years now. She knows her boundries very very well. I love it. We do not always put her collar on ( I KNOW, WE SHOULD ALWAYS PUT IT ON HER ) We live on 10 acres and have a big pond straight out from our house just across a field. At this time of the year wild geese come and mate and hatch their eggs. Lucy's boundry is not out as far as the pond so she lays and watches these geese. When Lucy is in the house, the geese start coming closer and closer to the house and then I am finding their dropings everywhere and Lucy likes them ! WELL, lately my DH had been telling Lucy, when he opens the door to let her out, "go get the geese Lucy" !!!!!!!!!!!
Second part of the story....................
I worked 7-3:30 today. Just as I am leaving the hospital, my cell phone rings and it is my DH. He says, your dog is gone. Well, I freek! The geese were in the yard by the house again and he told Lucy, "GO GET THE GEESE". Guess what, she went after the geese, they flew and she kept going lookinig for them. I got home, my DD, SIL, grandkids and DH are all out looking for her. I drove up the road to the next farm and I see her, I called her, she came to me, and immediately turned and, with nose to the ground, was off sniffing geese. She had that nose glued to the ground and was all over the place looking for them. After about 20 minutes, she came to me and got her in the car. OMGoodness, did she ever stink!!!!!! AND has never been this black before. PLUS, she had jaggers all through her fur and her beautiful plume, her tail. I tried brushing them out, but they wouldn't budge. I scrubbed and scrubbed her, she is still dirty. I had to cut the jaggers out. I am waiting now for her to dry and then I will attempt to get them out of her tail.
Now how could we be mad at her............. She was just doing her job. After all, she is a great white retriever, right!!!!!
AND now she has to have her collar on at all times when outside. Lesson learned!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you get all the 'stuff' out of her gorgeous tail. If you have to cut it, remember you have her tail to cut and it WILL grow back. Now, about the DH - I hope he learned his lesson!! I am relieved that you can see the 'humor' in your story and that you shared it to remind the rest of us that it only takes a second....

As good at recall as my Springer usually is, I often take him out front off leash to get the mail. Well, he took off across the street after a cat!!! He has never done this before, but it was a wake up call for me to be more vigilant. I was lucky, he didn't come back stinky and black.

I am so happy to hear you found her, I would've freaked as well. Poor thing, she only wanted to do her job.
