Has anyone had any experience with the use of Orijen puppy food and what are your thoughts on it?  I have a nine week old mini golden doodle.

We tried it when my Golden was a baby. It's so high protein, it didn't agree with his tummy. So, it didn't work for us, but I know a lot of people who have had positive experiences.

We've been feeding it to Oskar since 8 weeks & he's thriving.  He's now almost 9 months old.  The food has agreed with him, never an upset.  Quality is great according to what I've read.

Baker has been sneaking some & has gained 10# :)  He's 4 & doesn't need puppy food... :P

Thank you for your feedback

Orijen Puppy is excellent!!  My puppy loves the food a lot and will eat it very fast.  I use to feed my puppy Taste of the Wild and she would eat a bite and walk away for awhile and come back and eat some more, it was very frustrating trying to feed my puppy.

If you check out the Food Group there is a list of best dog foods and Oriijen is at the top of the list.  Hurley was on it when a puppy but he didn't like it so I switched to Wellness (which is on that same list) but he didn't like that one either.  So what I did was get samples of several dog foods on the list for a 'taste test'.   I had Hurley sit a short distance away and after I set out the various samples in different piles I released Hurley and he went directly to one of the Taste of the Wild samples so that is what I have him on now.   I also started putting Coconut oil in his food.  Supposedly it will help keep his coat shiny and keep it from getting dry.   If you decide to try out coconut oil be sure to start slow.  I add a large table pureed pumpkin along with the coconut oil to help with the adjustment to the new food and to the coconut oil.

Good luck on finding the food that has your little one likes the most.

It's probably the highest quality kibble you get get.  Certainly one of the highest.  And the Champion people are super nice and happy to help with any questions.  As far as taste, Lola doesn't seem to like it too much - but she doesn't like any kibble, so what else is new.  Except for Bil Jac, which is out of the question.

Orijen is the best (IMO) High protein is exactly what dogs need and this food consistently wins on so many fronts. The company is a family owned company and all the food is sourced locally in Canada. You can see where it comes from. I put both my boys on it as soon as I could move them slowly onto it after they came home. They are now both on Acana in the last three months (from the same company)  Mostly due to cost as both are very expensive here. I actually switch between the two with no problem.  Riley took three weeks of loose poops and gas before he settled completely as a puppy and Boris had no problems at all. I can highly recommend this food and if you go to the food group here on DK you will see that it is top of their recommended list too.

We feed our 11 week old puppy Orijen and so far so good!  That's what our breeders fed her so we were recommended to continue on that brand, at least for the first while.  She doesn't eat as much as the bag recommends her to eat though, but we haven't noticed her feeling sick or upset stomach, so we kind of just think she might not have the biggest appetite!
