Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm sure you've all rolled your eyes at rehome ads in the paper or elsewhere where the current dog owner claims the dog needs a new home with "room to run." As if said dog would gladly go out for a jog or sprints every morning if it weren't for the current home's dinky yard.

"Master, I love you and all...but this place isn't letting me live to my full potential as the marathon labrador I was born to be. Won't you please find me someone who has 30 acres so I can truly enjoy my life in solitude without you constantly pestering me to go on boring walks and calling me for petting and belly rubs?"

Honestly if there ever were animals I felt bad for due to lack of room ... it would be birds.
Stuck in a cage, wings clipped.

But you never see ads in the paper that read:

"Great bird, good with kids. But needs room to fly."

or

"Really cute fish...low maintenance, but needs room to swim"

I wonder if the owners of the dog that "needs room to run" will come out and measure applicants' lots. "Hmmm...sorry sir, your yard is about 1.25 acres short of my sweet Rover's needs. He just won't thrive here."

A dog may need...
A job, yes.
Training, yes.
Human led exercise, yes.

But room to run? HA!

I totally agree, we took Cali to the dog park to let her run in a confined area until we got the invisible fence in. She loves that she is able to run around her yard, so I too think "needs room to run" is a lame excuse for someone who doesn't want the commitment such as walking etc....

I guess some people does not see having a pet is a commitment.
If they are not a "Commitment" type, but wants to enjoy the dogs, then they should go volunteer at the animal shelter, instead of putting one in it.
They can go walk the dogs and enjoy them while providing them with attention only when they can do it.

What a great point, Adina. We all know that given the option, our dogs would rather be with us in the closet than leave us for a ten-acre backyard.
"Room to run" is just like "deserves someone who can spend more time"...
Always prefaced by "We love our dog, but..."

LOL! "Room to run" is code for "I should have gotten a chihuahua!" "Room to run" is code for "I am a rather ignorant putz who ran out and bought a dog without realizing it isnt all cut out like the commercial on TV said it would be". "Room to run" is code for: In a society where people cant even commit to looking after their own children it is damn easy to throw away a dog when you get tired of it.

Exactly, Kyoko is right. They just don't want to put in the work.

They should just admit the fact that they suck at caring, training and willingness.
Add should read "Royal dog, looking for caring and willing owner"

It's always the fault of less powerful, isn't it?
