Hi Caitlin. Welcome to Doodlkisses. Fergie and Lucy are F1 goldendoodles. One the small side for a standard. Wonderful dogs and I wouldn't change a thing about either one of them. Fergie's 16 months old and weighs 47 lbs. Very nice size and very calm temperament. Good luck on your hunt for a goldendoodle. It's so much fun.

Welcome from another Carmel Goldendoodle! Mater loves to play at the park on Gray Road near 106th. Maybe he can play with your puppy some time!

Hi Caitlin, I have a number of suggestions to help you in your search for a rescue doodle. But please know that the chances that a pet store puppy did NOT come from a mill is VERY slim. The statistics show that 99% of puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills. At best from backyard breeders who aren't doing things correctly when it comes to breeding.

A good breeder SCREENS buyers ahead of time and offers a minimum 2 year health guarantee -- if a breeder sells to a pet store how can they SCREEN the buyer to be sure it's a good match between puppy and owner? They can't. Good breeders will NEVER let a puppy be sold by a middle man...it just doesn't happen.

A good breeder also has done extensive health testing of parent dogs to do their best to eliminate health problems. See the article I wrote on this:

For these reasons I highly encourage you to not buy the puppy. Every puppy bought encourages bad breeders to continue making money with breeding. Can you go to the breeder's home and inspect the premises? Can you get health testing proof from the breeder? Can you get a 2-3 year health guarantee that will reimburse your money if your puppy gets hip dysplasia? If you can't don't buy that puppy no matter how cute it is. All it does is perpetuate the problem further.

Here's what you should do: place an application with IDOG.biz -- they are the nation's ALL doodle rescue and their director lives in INDIANA! Once you have an application you will be notified when a doodle becomes available for adoption. Check our Indiana Doodle group on here...the member with the name IDOGMa is the director of IDOG---ask her questions and get her take on puppies sold in stores. She's very knowledgeable and in your state.

Talk to the gals that run the Doodles in Need, Help! group on here (just click on the groups tab at the top of any page and find the group in there). They are knowledgeable about puppy mills and rescue as well. They would make great people to get advice from.

Good luck in your search!

Caitlin - When you do decide to get goldendoodle please either get one from a reliable breeder or get a rescue. Many dogs in pet stores started their life in a puppy mill.
