About Me:
Looking for a mini goldendoodle or labradoodle, probably F1B due to allergies and desire for low shed. I haven't had a dog in many years but would love to at this point. I also have 2 cats. I'm a therapist and would consider training a doodle as a therapy dog.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
2 cats
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I have mild allergies to my cats and don't want to aggravate the allergy situation further. I had a wonderful poodle growing up and I love labs.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
I would like to swim and take walks with my doodle.

Hi Jennifer, I just read your post.  I don't want you to assume that all goldendoodles or labradoodles for that matter are hypoallergenic i.e. allergy friendly.  This is marketing hype and if a breeder tells you that - RUN away.  I also volunteer in doodle rescue and here is the information I share with people on that site who have allergies:

Many doodles lose their homes because of false belief that they do not shed or are hypoallergenic. The Poodle's genes do not cancel out the heavily shedding genes of the Lab or the Golden. There are many poodle mixes in which neither of the parent breeds shed, i.e. Schnoodles (schnauzer/poodle), but when you have breeds like Labs or Goldens in the mix, all bets are off. In fact, 70% of F1 (first-cross) doodles do shed, some of them quite heavily. If allergies are a concern, you would be much safer considering a purebred that is guaranteed to be non-shedding and allergy friendly.

If allergies are a concern, you need to be aware that there is truly not a hypoallergenic dog breed, however 'non-shedding' dogs tend to be more allergy friendly. Here is a link to the most allergy friendly breeds: http://www.justdogbreeds.com/low-shedding-dog-breeds.html

While doodles are great dogs, not all of them are non-shedding or allergy friendly, even if they don't shed. Doodles also have a coat change from pup to adult that can cause a change in allergic reactions to them. Here is an article about determining allergy levels with a particular doodle. http://doodlerescue.org/group/isadoodleforyou/forum/topics/the-allergy-mythcourtesy-of  No one should make a guarantee that a doodle is or will be hypoallergenic - this is marketing hype.

Welcome to doodlekisses, Jennifer! This is a great place to be if you're looking for a doodle. Feel free to jump a right in to our discussions in the main forum. Also check out our groups page and join some groups. We have some groups that feature doodles for sale that you can peruse, geographical groups, and many others. If you can tolerate your cat's, you may do well with an F1 B doodle. However, some F1 Bs still shed and can still aggravate allergies for those with severe allergies. Good luck in your search and you visit as often :-)
