Hi Kathy,

I have been thinking about you. Did you ever get a doodle?  Just wondering how you were, your search, your decision?  Hope all is PERFECT with you

Kathy.  HELP

Are you close to this shelter. There is a doodle in CA in a shelter. Only 4 months old.  If you have allergies to this one we can always list it with the Doodle Rescue. In the mean time, you will find out and be saving a dog.

AdinaP, site administrator, posted this response to a similar question.  The recipient found it very helpful so I thought I would share it with you also.  Again, hope this helps. I truly understand the love and companionship of a dog, appreciate those who look long and hard with this life-long commitment.  Anything I can do to help.

"the more hypoallergenic the dog becomes" -- Poodles do not shed their hair/coat/fur (whatever you want to call it). So because less hair falls out and floats around the house, less dander is falling and floating around the house. People are usually allergic to the dander. Some are also allergic to the protein in saliva (so shed or no shed, this would still be an issue for any breed). I had a coworker who would break out in hives if a dog licked her...even petting a poodle. So it all depends on your/your family's allergies. Another thing to keep in mind is that doodle hair is like velcro so if you have pollen allergies and allergies to things outdoors, your dog can drag things in on its fur. Just some things to keep in mind regarding allergies and dogs.

Another thing to ask yourself is this: if you're willing to get really close to poodle, why not go all the way and get a standard poodle and be assured of the non-shedding part? You don't have to clip their hair to look like a show poodle. Standard poodles in puppy haircuts look a lot like doodles.

and one more. Hope these help you and you are able to find a forever dog.  So many need good homes.

Sure!  So many sad sad stories that I want as many to be aware before they make a decision.  I don't have allergies ( diagnosed) but when I groom my doodle, my eyes, nose, and face itch so badly.   You may also consider having a professional groom your dog. Expensive, but so is being sick.
