Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?: I always had golden retreivers and did not want a dog that would shed so here is the goldendoodle

F1 labradoodles (first generation) are least expensive: $1200 on average.
Higher generations are MORE expensive with F1b's about $1500-1800
And typically australian labradoodles (which are what you were asking about) are MOST expensive.
Minis are also more expensive than standard sizes.
Doodles under $1000 are often from breeders who do NOT do health testing (and you'll see that susie does all of the recommended health testing which is pricey to do). So all in all doodles are spendy, but for good reason.
