Event Description

Tails are wagging all over Town in anticipation of Parkers fourth annual Barker Days event on Saturday, Sept. 11 at OBrien Park. The event will feature a temporary dog park in the OBrien Park ball field and H2OBrien Pool, dog demonstrations, contests and dog-related vendors.

Dogs and their owners can come to O'Brien Park between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for canine fun and socialization. Dogs can take a dip in the pool (closed to humans for the season and neutralized to be dog-friendly), chase balls on the baseball field, enter contests, test their skills on an agility course and rub noses with local dog-related service providers. A separate play area will be provided for small dogs under 25 pounds that prefer to play with friends their own size.
In order to ensure a successful event, owners are asked to follow certain guidelines at the event. Dogs must wear a current rabies tag and ID tag at all times. Leashes are required outside of the fenced event area and should be kept handy at all times as the dogs play. Owners are responsible for picking up after their own dogs; disposable bags will be provided. All dogs must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Please, no more than two dogs per adult. Kids are welcome at the event, but may not be solely responsible for any dog and should be closely supervised. Dogs in heat, puppies under four months or who have not had final shots, aggressive dogs and dogs who are sick may not attend. We had nearly 600 dogs at the event in past years, so if your dog does not socialize well in crowds, this is not the event for him. The owner of any dog displaying mounting behavior must immediately leash and remove the dog from the situation. Owners are liable for their pets and are responsible for keeping their dogs within event boundaries.

Registration for Barker Days is $5 per dog for Parker residents, $7 for nonresidents; humans are free. Due to the popularity of this event, it is highly recommended that you pre-register for this event through Parker Recreations online registration system, www.ParkerRec.com. Registration the day of the event will be on a space-available basis. Dogs who pre-register will have expedited check-in and receive a doggie bag of treats courtesy of local businesses. For additional event information, contact Meagan at 303.841.4500, ext. 3274, or mnakashima@parkeronline.org.
