Ok, we just had our first rain in So. Cal and Bailey decided to be picky about where she wants to go.  I took her out 6 times to the same spot waited about 2 minutes, then brought her in.  She finally went on the 7th time.  She was wet and had all kinds of leaves stuck to her legs.

I have not grass in my backyard, so I have to take her across the street and there is nothing but ground cover.

It's going to be a long winter unless she knows potty means potty, and not a walk.  It's my fault for spoiling her this summer with poop walks.

Winter will be hard. Myla has ALWAYS done her business in the yard. Chloe always makes DH take her when he is home. Somehow doodle mom gets them both to go in the yard. He's a pushover!! Good luck!

A raincoat and booties might be the trick.  They are sometimes available new on eBay and almost always on other Internet pet supply sites...

ha!  love the "London Dog" raincoat!!!

We are at an all time record with 46 inches OVER our average rainfall this year.  The last 25 out of 34 days have rained.  Still, my Starlit has trouble with going out in the rain.  I know your pain.  Many mornings I have had to change my clothes before work because I am soaked already.

Don't worry, eventually, They Go.

Holy moly. I thought things were bad here when I saw we were 21 inches over normal.

Hi Roberta...

I hope I can help you here...

I found that you really don't need grass...but...what you need is a routine.  (they are able to "go" on a hard top when need be...smile)

So...if you begin a routine with Bailey...and keep it up...it should work.

Go to the same spot...tell Bailey to Go Potty...or what ever phrase you use...and make sure you say the same thing Every Time.

Also...Bailey will have to "go" after meals...so take Bailey out after breakfast and dinner...and also after Bailey gets up from naps and after playtime.  Those are the times that Bailey will most likely have to "go". (smile)

You will see what the routine is...and then know when the times to " go" will be.

Of course...rain makes things Very Unpleasant...to say the least!!  A Very Big Umbrella is a good investment!  Lol...

Good Luck...

Some dogs just hate to go outside in the rain. When it was wet outside, I used to have to push my son's Doberman onto the grass several times before he knew I meant business.  Once he was an adult, he still hated water/wet ground but knew the drill.

Bruin lays on the deck and sleeps...while it's raining!  Good Luck!
