Well, its been almost 3 weeks since we brought home Mickey Finn. We had a few days of discovery for the 3 of us. Then we had good days and not so good days. No sleep and days were you wonder in the potty training will ever get understood. We have socialized Mickey, he's had 2 Vet visits. His ear infections have clear up, we bought Pet Insurance, we bought every treat, chew toy, bully stick and were almost weaned to Acana Wild Prairie from the food the breeder gave us. So many positive steps. The biggest most important issue has been where we take Mickey to go potty. We live on a Coastal Canyon so our back yard is down a flight of steps, thru a guest room and out or down a long hall way, down steps across our driveway to a vacant lot next door. Just way too much for Mickey Finn to be successful. So we did a set up on our deck. A washing machine pan (goes under the machine but we never used it) and grass, a little sod. We put bells on the sliding door. He is 100% trained! Wow it took us 2 weeks to figure it out, were slow learners!

It may have taken a bit longer for you to figure it out but kudos to you for finding a way to make him successful!!!!!
I live in an elevator building so we had similar issues. There is a great dog park half a block away, but still the process of getting the leash, waiting for the elevator, going downstairs, etc. was way too much for a little puppy that had to do. For a while she thought she was supposed to go on the bathroom floor next to the toilet, which was cute and actually pretty considerate in a way, but still not right. Eventually I wound up getting this, which has been a big help:
Sounds similar to what you have done. Obviously it's not perfect but it beats have to use pee pads. And she still has learned the idea of going to the sliding glass door, asking to be let out and then finding the grass to take care of her business. Hopefully this will make it easier for her in the future when hopefully we have a proper backyard.
Brilliant idea, sounds like things are working well there.
Here is the set up
Good job!
Sounds like everything is going well. It is always wonderful when they are potty trained.
our puppy kindergarten trainer always said to avoid setting them up for failure and you recognize that and did a great job at improvising the means for success with a great result. and Mickey Finn is adorable!
