The first time Sidiqi became aware of something interesting on the big screen was when one of those caveman commercials came on. He barked furiously at the "monster" for 30 seconds and then, when the commercial ended, he went back to chewing on his rawhide. Now he gets really excited whenever he sees a dog on the screen. (The dancing gecko gets a good reaction, too.) Sometimes he runs toward the TV, then races to the window on the same wall, but he never seems to catch the TV characters outside in our yard. Hmm...
Yes! Nouba seems to like watching "Ceasar Milan"'s Dog Whisperer. She seems to be first captivated by the sounds from the dogs on the show, then she watches them! It's very funny to watch! The longest was probably 5 minutes!
She also seems to like baseball when players run for bases!!
My Labradoodle, Koda, will watch tv for long periods of time. In fact, when I go out I usually leave Animal Planet on for him. He likes any of the dog shows (Animal Cops, It's Me or the Dog, etc.) the best I think (the barking gets his attention) but even cartoons get his attention. Anything that moves around a lot peaks his interest. We often take long car trips and I actually bought "Dog Sitter" DVDs for him to watch on the portable and they seem to help. He's a car loving dog anyway, but the DVDs help sometimes.
Great topic! My Ari perks up when he sees or hears other dogs or children on the television. Sometimes it really looks like he's getting into whatever is on. His ears are up and alert and he's wagging his tail.
The other night I was watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Ari was so enthralled by the shrieks of the children on the show! I think he thought they were really in our house! He jumped up and did this weird hopping thing around the living room like he wanted to play with them all! It was the funniest thing ever!
My Yankee Doodle LOVES the television and watches it whenever it's on. She loves "The Dog Whisperer" and "Animal Planet" but just can't tolerate the hippos on "Animal Planet." She is not a barker but she does talk loudly to the television. She recognizes certain commercials, even without music, and comes running.
As for the mirror, she jumps on my waterbed to view herself in the mirror. When she got clipped for the summer, she was so surprised by the new dog looking at her... it was too funny.
Rosco does not notice the tv... but... there is a commercial on right now that there is a dog up on the bed sleeping and the lady yells "ROSCO!" My Rosco looks around to see who is calling him :-)
this was the strangest thing, I figured our pup never had seen the TV at the breeders, but my husband thought there may have been a tv in the other room, BUT My Paddington, does NOT like that show on NBC with the Talent...he barks like crazy. TOO funny. He's got good taste, cuz I can't stand it either :)
My puppy hasn't noticed the Tv too much yet, but football season is coming and Mommy (me) likes to scream and yell for my team and I'm sure THAT will get a response or two.....myabe I'll teach him a few new words.....:)
Jersey loves to watch TV, especially the Dog Whisperer and Animal Planet. She walks right up to the TV and sits in front of it. During the commercials (unless there is an animal in it) she will ignore the TV and then watch when it comes back on. She enjoys watching kids playing on TV too.Jessie. my lab could care less.
Our six month old Goldendoodle, Holly, has recently become aware of animals on our big screen T.V. She recently had a fit when an Alaska video showed a big caribou walking towards the camera. Holly kept barking and backing up. Then she looked in back of the T.V. to find where the caribou went.
This week I realized that my Jack associates the General Hospital theme song with me & my boys coming home. I leave the TV on all day, usually to ABC as we watch GMA in the AM. As a teacher, I'm usually home by 3:05 & the schoolbus comes about 3:10. I used to think that he could hear the bus coming, that was why he ran to the door a little after I got home. But since we have been out for the summer, I've noticed that every time the song plays, Jack comes running from where ever he was. He stares at the TV and actually HOWLS, then runs to the door. It's like Pavlovs dogs or something. Other than that, no acknowledgement of the TV. It's hysterical, I taped it to show my husband, and he did it about 8 times.
