How do you all take your dog out of the fence for a walk? Even with the collar off, Lola will not go off the property. I have to put her in the car and drive down a couple houses and go from there. And then put her in the car when we get back from the walk. Please give advice. I kind of wish I didn't put it all around the house but it is nice when I want to sit on the front porch. I know people with small dogs that just pick them up and carry them across, can't do that with my doodle!
Oh, poor baby. We had this fence with our older small dog and we just taught her that if we call to her she can come without being hurt. Also, always take them in and out of the yard in the same spot.....ours was always out of the drive way. I don't know if this really helps you, or not. GL:)
This is always the tricky part! You work so hard to train them and then they won't cross that line :)). Our neighbor never could get his dog to cross...they had to drive him out for years. We taught our dogs to cross ONLY in the driveway, and ONLY with a leash on, and ONLY when we say "OK". Just be consistent in how and where you take them out. Be very patient and just keep encouraging and using your 'release' word and offering lots of treats. Good luck!
I will be getting this fence in two weeks..... their instructions were to do this for only a short time. Looks like that is not working for you. I heard some dogs get like this though with the fence. I'll have to keep this in mind when training. I'll ask the trainer when they come...maybe I can find out something new for you!!

The trainer did not want me to take her over the "line" until she had learned to stay in, at least a month. Now, we are stuck in. I have tried to coax her over but not big time with treats because by then I might as well get in the car. People with small dogs just pick them up and walk over.
I think you are doing the right thing by driving off not walking off. If you cannot carry them, don't let them know they can do it. My dogs stay in even if their collars are not on because they don't know they can get off without being in the car. Once they knew they could walk down the walk or driveway they would run off in that spot. I had to retrain them and only get them off by putting them in the car.
My wife and daughter take the dogs off the property on a leash. They tell me that all they have to do is say "It's OK your collar is off" and they go with no problem. With Boomer and Mariner they have to go up the driveway. Shayna will go off the property any place.
I guess it has to do with developing the trust with them.
Sandy, I have the efence for Lucy. At first I hated it because she ran through it 3 times before she finally got the idea. BUT, I think of her as my child and DO NOT want anything to happen to her. I had the same problem as you getting her to cross her boundry as she absolutely would not. I took her through the garage and would walk her off the property that way, but she then became shy of that. So I now put her in the car in the garage and take her that way. I have had the efence now for a little over a year and several times I would want to just take her for a walk or next door to a cook out etc. I just put her leash on her and would reassure her that it was OK that she crossed. I had to pull her across several times, always telling her it was OK. She finally trusted me enough that when she had her collar and leach on it was ok to walk across "with me". She also actually knows if she has the red efence collar on or another one. Oh, and I always take her across in the same spot. I would not do this until you have had the fence for awhile and she knows her boundries well. Good luck. Hope this helps :>) [Glitterfy.com - *Glitter Words*]
