We are picking up our puppy this Friday. Yesterday I took my kids to decide between the two puppies I have narrowed it down to. The creme is sweet but dominant over the black. (Pins her down during puppy play repeatedly) The black is smaller and also sweet and more submissive. 3 of my children are leaning towards the black goldendoodle. My 7 year old (and the one that frequently gets left out by her siblings) wants the creme because she feels like the black one would not come to her (true to a degree). She also likes creme better. She left the breeders sobbing. The creme one is not the most dominant in the litter but is more so than the black one. Any comments.
The pinning down during puppy play doesn't necessarily dictate which one will be more submissive in a few months. Our Creme is more submissive with other dogs, but she will take it to her Black sister during play just as much as she will submit. Whereas the Black one will submit some during puppy play, she will by no means submit to strange dogs--she avoids, my guess, until she's bigger and can stand her ground. We'll see, though. Sorry to hear J is the lone holdout on the Creme. J can always come over and play with our Creme... Best of luck on Friday, and let us know if there is anything we can do.
Thanks Rolando. Thank you for showing me this site. It seems as next to my question you are the one that will be getting my responses. Sorry if that is the case. We'll let you know what happens.
(Plan A) If you can't have both, (and only if), (Plan B) YOU make the decision. Your children will love whichever puppy you bring home. I would imagine it's hard to ever get all your kids to agree. Remember, you're the adult and you need to decide. Or else, (Plan C) throw black, white in a hat and pick. I'm not much help.
LOL! I wish we could . I think one right now is all we can do as well. As the cost. My kids have been saving for months for the one. Thanks for the smile and that would solve everything wouldn't it.
Our Kachi was the biggest, and most dominant pup in the litter. We almost didn't pick him because he actually seemed almost stand-offish compared to his brothers & sisters who were all vying for our attention. In the end, we made an excellent choice. The deciding factor: we thought he was the cutest, and he had the best coat!! (Shallow, I know!) Now, our big boy is so loving, funny, sweet, and really a pretty mellow guy except when he plays... which he does on full tilt! As the pack leader, you will teach yours to be submissive & he'll (she'll)be great (whichever you choose)!
I'd pick the black puppy, of course because that's what we have! :)
Pros/Cons of black puppies:
they are hard to photograph- con
they get really HOT in the summer- con
they're different than most doodles- pro
everyone thinks that they're a portugese water dog....kinda funny.
they're going to look great in the snow!
Thanks, There is a beautiful mellow creme male that I think is adorable but he is the biggest in the litter. My kids are nervous about getting the biggest one. I am glad yours worked out.
