Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our oldest Goldendoodle, Rozee. has always liked sleeping where it is chilly or cold. As a puppy it was behind the toilet, then when she couldn't fit there it was and is in the bathtub. What's with that? She also likes to sleep on the cold bricks in front of our wood stove (when it's off, of course). I even made a nice soft bed for her to go on top of the bricks- she pushed it aside and loves the bricks. Now our younger dog, Bella Pearl, is seeking out the same type of places. She goes out and sleeps on the cold cement in the garage. Now our house isn't hot - stays at about 65 degrees which means we (the humans) usually wear several layers. This just seems strange to us since none of our other dogs have done this. Do we just have "strange doods"?

Halas likes the cool ceramic tile in the kitchen. And when he stays in his kennel, which isn't very often any more, he pushes the kennel pad (blanket, sheet, whatever) out of the way so he can lay right on the cooler plastic bottom of the kennel. He hasn't tried to get in the tub yet.
Both my dogs like to sleep on the couch, on their soft and plush pillows or a rug, or on one of our beds, preferably under the covers and next to a human. So I suppose they are the opposite in that they like soft and warm surfaces. I had to buy raised dog beds for our kennel in the garage because they refused to lie down on the floor even though it's carpeted. Add to that several layers of thick pillows and cosy blankets, and now they finally like their kennel!
Our puppy is black, so I just attributed it to his dark coat. He loves the tile floor and the hardwood floors rather than carpet and he also pushes the crate pad off to the side and uses it as a pillow rather than a bed. Maybe it's their thick coat?

I love the bathtub photo! Ours hasn't tried that yet....
Aww--imagining the crate pad pillow is a precious image. Thanks.
Couch Potatoes:

WOW! We have actually tried to get them to sleep on the bed or even on nice soft dog beds but it's a No-Go. The carpet is even a problem for them so we put sheets down so it's at least a little cooler.
My guys much prefer cool to warm. Many go to sleep on or around our bed but, in the night, they move to the hardwood floors in the hall. It's like going through a maze to get to the water closet in the dark!
Oh yes!! Registers are their favorite or the ceramic tile floor!!
Yes, Barney also sleeps on the register in the bathroom - on the tile floor. He will lay there and wait for the air conditioner to come on, sometimes for hours - we just laugh at him!!!!
I'm go glad to hear that our doods aren't really "that strange". We call them the "Cool Doods"! They also jockey for the vents when the a/c is on and watching two dogs push-huff and puff trying to claim the coolest/coldest spot is really funny. Oregon is known for it's cooler weather which I guess is a real good thing because I'm not sure how these two would do if we decided to move to Arizona to retire. Guess we'll just have to stay here for the sake of our furkids!
The only time Rusty sleeps on tiles or hard surface is in the Summer, then he likes to sleep in the front voyer or in our ensuite but not in the shower. Otherwise it's on his bed, he has a thick pad about 6" thick and a blanket, or on ours in the winter, up against our legs, has to be close to someone usually Dad and I get kicked when he dreams.
Boomer definitely likes to sleep where it is cooler. The bathroom floor is his favorite. While we are awake he will nap outside on the concrete sidewalk. Shayna also enjoys the cooler places but not like Boomer. Mariner doesn't seem to have a preference. He is the only one that still sleeps in the bed with us. I guess it is to warm for the other two.
