Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, as some of you may already know. I am fairly new and still trying to decide wich kind of dog would fit our family best. I really liked the miniature since we don't have a yard. But I've heard that miniatures are not really calm, that they are the most active of all three sizes. What is your experience? Wi live in a big condo. How much exercise would he/she need?
Thank you all...

Beckett is a mini. He's 6 months old. I don't find him to be hyper. He's a normal puppy that does get excited when he greets people but then he will calm down in a few minutes. We used to have a golden that was a lot more active and not as calm as Beckett. He goes for a walk everyday unless the weather is bad. But I don't see much difference on those days when he doesn't get out for a walk. I'm very happy with my mini.
Hello!
I'm new here too. We are breeders of miniatures and medium Australian Multigeneration Labradoodles. Are miniatures are just as wonderful as our mediums. We have two grandsons 3 & 6 and our miniatures love them and our grandsons love the puppies and parents. Ours need the same amount of exercise as our mediums do they just go for shorter walks. Their little legs can't keep up with the bigger dogs. All love to take walks, go for rides in the car and play outside. As far as temperaments though, they are equal. I hope this helps.

Hi Gabe,
I have been breeding Mini, Med and Standards since 2001. It is true that on average the mini is a more busy and vocal than the med and standards (on average). Mostly because they use smaller poodles to reduce the size. I have a huge preference for the Standard Labradoodle (and poodle for that matter)and have bred my Doodle standards down in size. I actually have a mini litter now from the daughter of my original standard female. The idea (and this is not unique to me) is to provide a large dog temperament in a smaller package. Selecting the smaller Doodles instead of poodles that have the doodle temperament. So all breeding is based on temperament not just size or color. Does that make sense?
So my answer is you can get a great doodle in any size but check breeding and parents. Remember the temperament is always going to be the #1 deal when selecting your new puppy.
Good luck and let us all know what you decide on!
Sheila
