A news report tonight stated that a Federal Judge has approved a class action suit for those unfortunate pet owners who lost their pets and/or incurred vet expenses due to the malamine contamination of pet foods.
Richard, if you read closely, you'll see that the most we will see from this is $900. - That is what my beloved std poodle, Magic is worth. According to the suit, dogs are considered chattel, not family members, disposable. Menu foods is still in business and my and many other dogs and cats are dead. The Federal Judge approved the suit, as is...$900. See my discussion of a month or so ago, "$900...is that all my dog is worth,"here on DK. I'll keep you all informed as to any updates.
This is why it is so important to KNOW who made your dogs food and what exactly is in it. I have been homecooking since the recalls and just recently added Innova Evo dry. I will never trust a commercial dog food company or even a vet's recommendation again without checking it out myself.
Lynn, I was saddened to read about Magic's poisoning. And then only to receive $900.00. Doesn't this world have its values backward most of the time. Again, I am so sorry.
My standard poodle was sickened by food about 6 weeks before the recall. She was 14 at the time and had other health issues. Luckily she was not eating the contaminated food exclusively. I just added the canned Nutro Ultra to her Calif. Natural. After lots of vet visits and 3 days of i.v. fluids. she made it. I still think it left lasting damage and she died 8 months later. It is so scary that it was done to animals, but now the same thing has gone on in their baby formula. How sick is that?
Thank you Ann. But I don't go through it again...it's ongoing. This Class Action Suit is the one began 2 years ago. It involves Mars Co., Iams, Eukanuba and other well known brand companies. The $900 only covers products: the food and the animals. There is no allocation for pain and suffering of the animals or us. Mars knew about the problem months before the recall and nothing was done until the FDA recalls. By then it was too late. Yesterday, a judge agreed to the lawsuit, as is.
