What long lasting chew toys/bones does everyone use and like. My dogs love rawhide bones, but they get so yucky--I would love to find an alternative we can use daily and keep rawhides for special times when we NEED to keep them busy.

Thanks!

Yesterday I bought a stuffed sterilized bone for Ari and he LOVES it - definitely the best money I've spent in a LONG time. It kept him busy for a LONG time.

The only thing I would change next time is to get a hollow sterilized bone as the stuffed one did get a little messy and I was afraid of the stuff inside staining my sage carpet. lol :P
I think I am going to pick one up this week as well. So, you think she would like a hollow one as much as the stuffed?
You can always stuff it yourself or smear it with something tasty inside that isn't too prone to causing staining. Or give it to her in her crate or in a room where you can just wipe the floor. Would she stay in place on a towel? They aren't that bad, but it's like any other food..it CAN be messy. Usually mine are sooo good at sucking out the stuff that very little gets on the floor, but their paws and fur can get wet and sticky depending on the stuffing. Mine continue to love their bones even long after the stuffing is gone.
My older dog has learned to stay on a blanket or her bed in the kitchen to eat messy treats, but Giada has not learned this--she's only 5 months old. The other day she stayed for about 20 minutes, so she is learning--it will take time:)
Well, that was money lost. Neither of my dogs like them. Licked them a couple times and that was it:( Guess, we'll stick to rawhide--I think it's fine, just wanted some options. I am not against rawhide though!
Awwe that's too bad. The stuffed ones or the plain ones? You never know they might like them later. Our older dog hasn't been into chewing on things in years and Rosco wasn't into the bones until closer to a year old.
They were plain, but when I saw they didn't care for them I stuffed them with pumpkin--that lasted about 2 min, then it was over:( Next time I will freeze them, I think that definately will make it last longer, but I wanted something non-messy, so it defeets the purpose. They LOVE the rawhide---just to slimmy for the house.

I will keep looking for something they love that may not be too messy for the house. You're right they may like them later, so I will keep them--it's only been a day.
I was just talking to Clark about this and he pointed out that actually ALL but one really long bone we had bought stuffed. So I think our dogs "fell in love" with them the way people do with each other when they look good...and then the love grew deep enough so even when they got old and stuffing less...they learned how fun it was to grind away at those bones and still love them.
Too funny, well I will keep trying:)
I wish Toby would have bonded onto the sterilized bones because they are so much cleaner! He didn't and I wasn't going to go for the rawhide or bully sticks so we have settled on compressed rawhide bones. We do supervise and if any smaller pieces result from the chewing we dispose of those. Our vet says there is a certain amount of risk in most any type of chew thing and I agree. I don't count Kongs as a chew thing, at least Toby does not chew on his but he sure has a good time getting stuff out of it!
Yup, I totally agree! What is compressed rawhide? I don't believe I have ever bought this. How is it different from reg. rawhide?
