Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My Husband and I have recently moved into our house and were having a discussion about where we would put our Christmas tree. Then we got to the subject of the Doods and how they would react to Christmas decorations, etc. Since this is our first Christmas with "the Girls", I was wondering how some of you have fared with your pups during the holidays with decorations on the tree, etc. I just have these horrors of walking in and finding the tree laying on its side and decorations all over the room.
I also appreciate any tips you may have!!

1st Christmas we put our ex-pen around the tree. 2nd Christmas was at my mom's house and the tree only went up on Christmas eve and the doodles did great with it. I was deathly worried that Rosco would hike his leg up on the tree...but he did not =)
Oh Adina, your last sentence made me LOL! I guess I never thought of THAT!!
Haha!

It probably depends on whether or not any other animal has marked the tree...
My Rocky did pee on our first real tree when he was about 9 months old, so we put up the fake one the next year, and he completely ignored it! And I would not put "smelly" presents under the tree until the last minute, especially not the presents for the dogs ;)
I'm sorry, but you have to admit it, that's one of those stories that is really funny now, but I'm sure, was anything but, at the time!!
Oh, it was funny alright ;) We're pretty accident tolerant, and at least he didn't pee on the electric lights, or he might have gotten zapped !! Ouch.
I have never had a problem with my dogs I've had and Christmas trees.
Neither of my guys even noticed the tree last year and it was the first christmas tree we'd had with either of them.
This will be Cotton and the two cockers first Christmas with us so I plan an using a plastic play yard that folds up accordian style to block off the tree. I hope this works. Has anyone else used one?
Oh boy! I hadn't even thought about the presents UNDER the tree!! Paper, paper and more paper! And bows! Kachi will think he's in dog heaven. I can tell all ready, I'm in for a lot of 'leave it' s. That shock collar, or the one that has the remote spray thing, could be very handy for this! Has anyone tried either of these?
Just put an expen around it and take it away if you have guests...worked for us!
We had a miniature poodle who loved to stalk under the Christmas tree and have the ornaments and branches scratch his back. He never was destructive however and we would just move the ornaments up. We have had no problems with the doodles, however, as they are so tall. We do wrap gifts for them and they knew where they are under the tree but never bother them until they are given their gifts. They LOVE Christmas. Our friend, Pat, came up with an idea to make a mouse trap ornament and put it on the tree at nose level. When they touch the "ornament" it snaps at them. I don't think that would work for everyone and definitely not appropriate for people with children, but it works fine for us. Our boys are very intelligent and know the Christmas tree if off limits.
