Some of you may remember my post of six weeks ago, "My groomer chastised me today." I had been combing Sidiqi every day, but despite my best efforts, he was full of mats. Well, we just brought him in for another grooming two days ago, and the groomer said he had NO MATS!!! Wahoo! In fact, last time, he was the very last dog in there, despite the fact that we dropped him off first thing in the morning... and they had to stay open late for him. This time, they called around 2 p.m. to say he was done.

What was the difference? After she reamed me last time, I asked her to give me a lesson. She taught me how to line brush. (And I had to buy a pin brush, by the way. Combing didn't do the trick at all.) Also, I watched Ann & Sully's grooming video on brushing, and that was very helpful. I don't even have to brush Sidiqi every day to keep him mat-free. I brush him 2-3 times per week, and that's despite the fact that he swims in our pool often and has very curly fur.

Yay!!!

Does anyone else have grooming tips they can share with us?

That's wonderful! Good work Jenel!
Great work! It is so much easier to prevent mats early than to try to comb or brush them out.

We are lucky in that Holly doesn't mat easily. Different dogs seem to have different matting tendencies. There is far less of a variety in our Maltese coats than there is between various coat styles of Doodles. However, individual Maltese will vary greatly regarding matting. I would guess that Doodle matting tendencies vary a lot more than Maltese.
