Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone!

After some failed attempts at getting a local designer to create a most fabulous Doodle Kisses logo for our site, we are trying something new.  We've posted a design contest on 99 Designs -- we're hoping for some professional quality designs to consider and wanted to let all DK know in case you want to try your hand at competing with some designers.  After all you are the heart and soul of DK and if you're an awesome designer at that...you may have some excellent ideas!

The prize is $495 (edit: oops, less than that as 99designs takes a sizable cut), but YOU MUST DO IT THROUGH THE 99 DESIGNS site -- DO NOT send me anything via DK or email.

Perhaps you are a designer or have friends/family who are good at this stuff! Tell them about it--the contest only lasts ONE WEEK starting NOW.  So...if you're interested or know someone who might be, let them know ASAP!

Here's the site once again: https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/doodlekisses-needs-simpl...

Good luck to any participants from DK!!!  Cross your fingers that we get something awesome!

I'm not a designer so couldn't even begin to design one, but I really like the idea of a logo that showcases the various colors in the doodles, such as this picture on this T-shirt.

Cute tee. I like the idea of getting love in there somehow.

I don't have the skills necessary to do this, but I had a little fun trying. I didn't submit this, it was just for fun. Bet you can't guess who the model was.  :>)

I think it's very good. Submit, who knows.
I've just been thinking, okay obsessing, about the difficulties with a logo. One of the problems is that doodles are not simple if you want them realistic and shaggy. Good logos are simple. But some people have done pretty well with that dichotomy.

This is so true F. Honestly ANY dog has an easier profile, or drawing potential than a doodle. Not just because doodles are so shaggy, but because doodles are so varied. Depicting all of that shagginess is REALLY hard to do without making it look scary!

I have looked at a lot of really nice logos though, with dog foods, dog websites and dog companies and I've never seen a realistic or photo depiction of a dog as part of a logo. It's all cartooney, clip art, or a silhouette.

Ain't that the truth!  It was one thing we ran into a lot last year. And of course what IS the right doodle 'look'?  We all probably look at our own doodles and consider them to be the 'right' look.  Yeah with the crazy variation in scruffiness coat type (curly, wavy, straight), length and different cuts and sizes -- it is TOUGH to represent accurately AND keep it simple.
We've updated the discussion post above because it was brought to our attention that 99Designs takes a sizable cut from the $495 'prize' we put up -- so wanted to be clear and not mislead.
