Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have the opportunity to purchase an Irish setter purebred mixed with a goldendoodle which is 50% golden retriever and 50% poodle. Does anyone on here have that type doodle? I am worried about shedding as my son has some allergies.

The chances of this mix shedding are extremely high. Genetically, you have 25% Poodle and 75% very high shedding breeds, the Golden Retriever and the Irish Setter. The odds are against you in the shedding department. In addition, I know of no reputable breeder producing this mix, and the chances of the parents having the proper genetic health testing are very low. For the latter reason, I would pass even without the allergy concerns.

It is not a breeder simply an oops litter between the dogs. . Thank you for your input! He is not severely allergic but he does have allergies.  I think he most,y wants at least a wavy hailed doodle but I don't think this will be the solution.

When Karen says 'high shedding"  she means a really lot of hair all the time.  In addition Irish Setters are very high energy, dogs and can be really a handful for an inexperienced dog owner.

I would wait for what you want, it is worth it.  Your family is going to put a lot of love, training and caring into this puppy for up to 14 years if you are lucky..  Get the best from a really knowledgeable breeder.

Amen.

I can second the "high shedding" really being a LOT of hair.

Luna is a mini/medium (40 lbs)  F1 goldendoodle and her hair tumbleweeds are all over the house.  They reappear about 1 day after vacuuming and during high shedding times (spring/fall) every time you pet her your hand comes away with a wad of undercoat.

I'd stay away from this dog and get a 100% non-shedding breed like a poodle.  With allergies I wouldn't even take a chance on a goldendoodle of any kind.  You can cut a poodle in a "doodle" cut (I think groomers call it a puppy cut).

Thanks!  We found F1B pups in our area and will be seeing them tomorrow

Awesome

Yes, I would worry about shedding also with an Irish setter.  Beautiful dog, but they are definitely shedders.  So, the puppies would be 50% setter, 25% golden, and 25% poodle.....the better thing to do if you are concerned about allergies is to look for an F1b goldendoodle which is 75% poodle.  They are great dogs with fabulous coats.  Look at the photos on my page to see the phantom goldendoodle and my newest, a sheepadoodle.  They look about the same as their fathers were both phantom poodles.  Stay with the doodles, but try to get a non-shedding variety, such as a goldendoodle, or f1b goldendoodle.

We found an F1B local to our area and will be going to see them tomorrow!  They have a boy and a girl available and we think the price is a steal!  Only $800!

Noemi, at that price, you are most likely dealing with a backyard breeder (or worse) who does not do genetic health testing on the parents and who sells puppies through online ad and brokerage sites like Puppy Find and NextDay Pets. That's a nightmare waiting to happen. Buying a puppy is a 12-16 year investment, and it's really important to do your homework and only deal with reputable breeders who are breeding for health and temperament. In addition to sparing yourself and your family a lot of heartache, you will also avoid rewarding irresponsible, cruel and neglectful breeding practices. There is no such thing as a "bargain" when it comes to buying a puppy.
Please read our excellent guidelines on What To Look For In a Breeder and run from anyone who can't measure up.

That is a very good price for a doodle.  Are they over-aged pups?  Pups normally sell at between 8 and 12 weeks, but after that are considered over-aged pups.  I think you will like the F1b pups, keep us informed.

oops! Maybe not so awesome.  Generally speaking you get what you pay for,  just look at the surroundings, ask some questions about good hips good eyes, early training in the eight positions.

We are on our third Australian Labradoodle as my husband is quite allergic to most dog breeds.  Maybe you should consider an ALD.
