For anyone following the "Saving Ace Doodle" page on Facebook, Ace was caught last night around 10pm EST! He has been wandering around the Eagle Landing neighborhood in Orange Park Florida since at least June, possibly longer. As it turns out, this is not the dog we thought we were looking for but it doesn't matter. He still needed to be rescued no matter who he belonged to before or what his name was. We will probably give him a new name to go with his new life.

Tonight he is safely at the emergency vet and will be getting all the necessary tests before being transferred to Elizabeth's vet on Monday. They told us that he looks really good for a dog that has been on his own for so long. His teeth are pearly white and Doc says his skin is not in bad shape either. Looks pretty healthy but now we have to wait to get test results. His weight was 59.3 but he still manages to look quite thin. Im sure once he is shaved down, we may see a much smaller dog than we thought he was. Poor boy was a bit traumatized tonight but thats alright. It is a REALLY cold night in Florida and I'm glad he doesn't have to stay out there in it searching for a warm place!

He was done in by love. He had been visiting the house of a little shih-tzu, Bubbles, who was in heat. He actually followed her and her owner into a fenced in back yard. He tried hard to get away but finally realized that was not possible.

Elizabeth and I are incredibly grateful for all of your support! It has been a rough 4 months for us and we are just beside ourselves with joy and relief! Thanks to Joanne, we now have some donations coming in to help pay for all the vet care he will need.

Of course I took a few pictures.....

Just one quick updated photo tonight. More tomorrow.

Ok, I lied. Heres one more

Was there any information on his tag?

Unfortunately, the tag is unreadable.

Darn!

I've been following this story for quite a few months and so happy he has been captured and will be safe and taken care of.  Ace or not, this is a doodle in need of safe home.

I'm sorry for Ace;s family that he isn't Ace and hope they do find Ace safe and sound soon.

It matters to Ace's family that it wasn't their Ace, but, if not for Ace, this dog would not have been rescued and his eventual fate was not a pretty picture.  This Ace has a chance for a wonderful life thanks to YOU and your perseverance.  Thank you so much for this.  In honor of Ace, I think this dog's name should continue to be Ace.  Someone said his original owners should be found - NO WAY. This dog was not chipped, not neutered, not posted lost with the shelters, so his original owners don't deserve to have him back. I am sure it is going to take a majorly dog savvy owner to help Ace become a beloved pet.  How rewarding that will be! :-}

Thank you again, everyone who helped capture this guy so that he can have a loving home.

I have to say, unless this is a case where this doodle was stolen and taken out of the area of the original owners, I agree completely with this. I know I was a bit nervous adopting Molly wondering what if the original owners came forward after, even knowing legally she would be ours. I thought I would feel guilty, but realized even if that happened, the neglect that had been allowed to happen was inexcusable and I got over that worry pretty quick.

I was overjoyed to see that this boy had been rescued and hope we continue to get updates on his new life.
The dedication and effort in rescuing this boy was incredible and inspiring to follow. Since I started following this story back in October I have prayed, bit my nails, cried, ground my teeth in frustration and now hollered in joy and done a happy dance!

To all who have aided in his rescue, thank you seems so inadequate to express the gratitude I am feeling, but thank you!

So happy that this baby has finally be rescued. Sad for Ace's family that it's not him. Lori and Elizabeth and all your helpers it's a wonderful thing you have done for this baby and your dedication and tenacity in sticking with your efforts are nothing short of heroic. This baby is going to have a brighter, happier life thanks to all of you. You guys are really my heroes.

Thank you Donna! It has been a very loooong journey but he was definitely worth the effort! He is a very sweet boy!

Such great news! "Ace the Imposter" needed to be saved.  Those mats are awful!  That will feel good coming off.  Thanks to his hero rescuers for months of perseverance!

He will always be Ace Stinkerdoodle to me.

What a beautiful story unfolding with a lot of heroes.

Ladies of Jacksonville, take your time with this boy now.   Give yourself a few weeks to decide who and what he is and where he should be. People will come out of the woodwork with offers of adopting, fostering,  or claims of  'that's our lost dog'  More than you can imagine.  Your fb inbox will blow up like never before.

Dont even come online  :)

You are going to be very busy with all new tasks daily. Figure him out. Give him some very needed time. You are qualified like any other. You will know what is right when the moment comes.

HUGS!   Doodle On

If others are interested here is the link.  A lot of expenses have already occurred: Cameras ( some stolen),  Private individuals for trapping, traps, Private individuals who capture,  food, gas ( they lived 30 minutes away and drove this at least once a day),  Fast food to entice him, countless hours on the phone, email, etc.     I am leaving a lot out.  Most of the monies have already been spent

Now, vetting, consulting a trainer, food, gas..... it all continues.   Thank you in advance.
