I just do not understand either side of this situation. What is wrong with people? Do they really not know there are other options?

Here I am looking through applications for Harper' new family. After reading this story it makes me nervous to even consider one. When it comes to placing my fosters I'm anal to begin with, LOL. I guess now I'm going to need a new word for it.
Yes, go ahead and give me suggestions. I know some of you would just not be able to resist.

So sad. Seriously though, he had options for his dog and for him it's awful for those he left behind that he chose this way for them both.
How sad. I agree with the others - the man had mental health issues. It sounds as if he knew he was going to kill himself and his way of caring for the dog was to put it down first. But who knows. Dh does work in NYC and moving probably wasn't an option - a bit mix would be banned in almost every building. People need to stop breeding them and adopt them only after careful research as to if they are allowed in their community. It did say that he was leaving the dog for over 9 hrs alone (9 hrs was the max allowed) in the apartment, that would = a 8 hr work shift and time to get there and home again - 9 hours alone is way too long. Someone complained that the dog was barking. Tragic story all the way around.
I read about this earlier in the week...so sad. I agree with others that there must be more to this, and that he must have been severely depressed to take this action. I would not worry about your adoption decisions, Tina. Go with your instincts. Being anal about placement of your fosters is a good thing - you are insightful and that has served you well in the past.
There has to be more to this story! You have every right to be extra careful about who takes Harper. Great Job!
I've read this story recently and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept saying why didn't he move??? Have a friend take until he could move....So sad-I know he had other issues and that probably didn't give him clear thinking about the dog and certainly put him over the edge.
