I chose the name Alyssa when I was 9 years old. I always said that someday I'd have a baby girl and name her Alyssa. After my husband and I had been dating for nearly a year we started talking about marriage. I told him then that if he marries me he should know that our first born will be a girl and her name will be Alyssa. He agreed. We were married nearly 2 years when Alyssa Kathleen (middle name after my mom) was born. My parents were not dog people and I unsuccessfully begged my whole childhood for a dog. While snuggling my new daughter in the hospital it occurred to me that her initials would be AKC. (Alyssa Kathleen Cliber) The name Alyssa was non-negotiable and we already told my mom that we were naming her first grandchild after her, so we couldn't change the middle name either. I shrugged and figured it was no big deal. After all I never had a dog and wasn't even sure what AKC stood for.....something to do with dogs or kennels....I was sure Alyssa would never realize that her initials stood for something.
At that point in my life I never would have guessed that nearly 12 years later I would have spent hours upon hours looking through AKC pedigrees and how much AKC would affect my life. Although our doodles are not AKC the parents I buy are. Alyssa is VERY MUCH aware of her initials and think they are cool. I hope it stays that way... :o)
OH, here's Alyssa at three years old with my "Alyssa" doll I got when I was 9.
Here's Alyssa last week with some of our non-AKC pups. :o)
