UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: VIDEO Advice: Transitioning Puppy Pads to Outdoor Potty Training on 10 month old doodle

Need some advice, outlook, difficulty, etc in this situation

Here is the history:

Ten month old Doodle, trained to potty on pads while the owner is not home.  The owner is rarely home.

Never been in a crate or crate trained.

Understands the very basic of commands but that is in a   foreign language ( Chinese)

If you were taking this dog into your home how would you go about immediately changing things?  Especially the potty situation.

We use bells here.

Would you put pads by the door then work your way outside?

Do dogs who use pads often go inside on other things?

I have no idea what to expect!  NONE

Other suggestions.

Here she is.  She is well behaved.  Soft.  Trained.  She is fine.  Thank  you for the advice.

We have decided to start fresh with training.   So far-Perfect

SHE May Be Spud's actual Sibling.  Same breeder  address.

In the old days......:)

I remember as a child going into many people's homes to find newspaper for the dogs.   It does seem like so long ago

I remember that too! I really think my parents trained two poodles on newspaper!

Joanne, you are a very good person to take this on considering all that you have been through. Is this someone you see daily?

I wish you the very best, your heart is always in the right place, thankfully you also know your limitations (meet at the dog park) I feel certain this pup can transition from inside to out, all of my family dogs did it the way everyone described, papers in and then moving papers out, after all potty in the house is not natural for them. Does this person have a big yard?

It breaks my heart when I hear about a person who collects a dog like you could collect a vase or piece of furniture.  If I were seldom home, I would not be selfish enough to own a dog.  IMO, a dog needs frequent interaction with its person.

I agree, Richard! It's really not fair to her dog.

I think this can be successfully done.  When we got Snowy he was paper trained ( that is still very common here in Ireland, crate training is still very new) and we lived in an apartment.  Then we moved to a house  I just moved the newspaper outside the back door and took him to it frequently.  Eventually I took the paper away and he adjusted to grass.  I think the language won't be a barrier as I'm pretty sure that the tone of your voice is more important than the actual words.  I wish you the best of luck with helping out though I'm not sure where you are going with this, I know with your help it can only get better for that Doodle.

Hmmm... I think I would start fresh and treat it as an untrained puppy.  I would not put ONE pad in the house to make it clear from the get go that in the house is OFF limits for potty.  Maybe a potty pad outside and lots of crating between potty breaks to make it very very clear where potty is allowed.  And of course lots of praise and all that for going outside.

I strongly agree with this.

I wondering since she is hardly ever home who is going to train the puppy to go outside.  If the puppy does get trained to go outside which can be done... who will take the puppy out to do its business ???

I had the same thought. Who will be there to train him and let him out?

From what I can gather ( remember there is a language barrier) the dog is trained to go outside, however she does leave a pad at the door. She states, most of the time it is dry but there are days when she can't come home on lunch / breaks and the dog has used the pad.
As for who is going to train her, I should have been more clear ; this is a probable owner surrender/ rehome situation.
So, these may be very simple situations-the crate and the pads. I will finally meet her today to see if I can help

Both dogs look so happy in your video. Is there any possibility she might come and live with you?
